THE ROLE
HudsonAlpha has created a dynamic ecosystem dedicated to advancing genomic innovation for the greater good. The Vice President for Economic Development and Commercialization is a key leader in this mission helping translate research findings into products and services and fostering the growth of life science organizations on HudsonAlphas Huntsville and Dothan campuses.
Reporting directly to the President the Vice President is a vital member of HudsonAlphas executive team collaborating closely with internal leadership Faculty Investigators and external stakeholders. This role champions innovation entrepreneurship and commercialization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the President and leadership team to shape and implement the Institutes strategic goals.
- Align economic development and commercialization initiatives with HudsonAlphas mission and objectives.
- Represent the Institute at external events and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders including scientists collaborators and policymakers.
Team and Financial Management
- Lead mentor and develop a highperforming economic development team.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance.
- Build partnerships to secure funding and support for HudsonAlphas economic development initiatives.
Economic Development
- Develop strategies and policies to foster intellectual property licensing and technology commercialization.
- Collaborate with Faculty Investigators to assess and translate research findings for commercial applications.
- Responsible for driving revenue growth through the attraction and retention of life science companies on HudsonAlpha campuses.
- Monitor legislation and public policy affecting economic development.
THE PERSON
Qualifications and Experience
- 10 years in economic development entrepreneurship technology transfer or related fields with 6 years in a management role.
- Bachelors degree in STEM business public administration or a related field.
- Proven success in delivering major programs with expertise in scientific commercialization and addressing barriers to success.
- Residency in the Huntsville metropolitan area / Tennessee Valley within 90 days of hire.
