DescriptionPacSci EMC is seeking a Chemist to provide analytical support for engineering manufacturing and R&D efforts. This role involves handling and downloading components containing energetic materials and performing test procedures to meet manufacturing and R&D needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analysis of engineering and production samples requiring handling and downloading of components containing energetic materials.
- Responsible for performance of established test procedures as required to meet manufacturing engineering and R&D needs. Provides analytical support for failure investigation powder processing and R&D efforts.
- Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and is responsible for scheduling yearly preventative maintenance and any required repairs provided by the manufacturer or under service contracts.
- Participate in meetings related to failure investigations and schedule inhouse or offsite analytical testing or investigations as required.
- Track analyses through the chemical project tracking system and provide results or reports (orally or written) as required by other associates based on test results.
- Maintain lab safety by conforming to the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Maintain safety regulations by proper handling and storage of explosives/pyrotechnics and monitor explosives limits in the Chem Lab as required.
- Document test results and maintain those results in the Chemistry database.
- Maintain the Chemical Inventory database update the inventory as needed and confirm the laboratory/storage inventory as required.
- Monitor order and track chemicals chemistry supplies and related equipment needed by the chemistry lab.
- May be required to attend offsite training sessions and/or professional meetings.
- Required to maintain laboratory equipment including routine calibrations and troubleshooting/repair of those issues not requiring technical support visits.
- Interface with engineering safety and production staff to provide analytical data and technical input in support of the development or improvement of production processes.
- Responsible for acceptance and analysis of explosives propellants and other energetic materials.
- Prepare reports presentations and other documentation related to engineering manufacturing and/or chemistry activities including technical test plans.
- Mentor lowerlevel chemists.
- Provide safetyrelated chemistry (powder) demonstrations.
- Collaborate with engineering associates in support of FRBrelated investigations.
- Development and documentation of new/revised laboratory procedures.
- Interface with powder processing for the manufacture/scaleup of existing or new R&D materials.
- Determine needs and prepare CARs and other documentation related to new instrumentation purchases for the chemistry lab.
- Review and edit reports presentations and other documents related to engineering manufacturing and/or chemistry activities including technical test plans and reports.
- Generate white papers and support proposal preparation.
- Proficient in the use of laboratory instrumentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient in the use of a variety of analytical chemistry methods and instrument operation including DSC TGA FTIR Raman UVVIS BET IC HPLC/MS and optical/digital microscopy. Experience with PEPCAL CHEETAH and related software desired but not required.
- Proficient in the use of PCbased software for instrument operation and data storage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Access and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to apply mathematics science and technology to complex problemsolving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good written and oral communication skills.

Education & Experience:
- BS or MS degree in chemistry or related field.
- 5 years of experience in a technical and manufacturing environment in the aerospace/defense industry (ordnance experience preferred).
