The University of Oklahoma is seeking an Associate Director of Research and Creative Activities to work with OU faculty as they develop grant and fellowship proposals to submit to a wide range of funding agencies and organizations including federal state and private entities. The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) provides support and skill development to help faculty enhance teaching extend research and creative activities engage in their communities and foster leadership within an environment that encourages a culture of community support and excellence. CFE is committed to developing useful resources to support faculty as they work toward their scholarship goals and advance OUs mission: to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching research and creative activity and service to the state and society. Towards this goal this position will assist faculty across all disciplines as they develop grant and fellowship proposals that support their research and creative activities. The Associate Director leads a team designed to support faculty research and creative activities by developing and presenting workshops consulting with faculty working with teams of scholars to develop collaborative projects and providing developmental feedback on proposal materials.
Duties:
- Lead a team of Research & Creative Activities (R&CA) Faculty Development Specialists as they work to discover develop and share resources and approaches that allow faculty across all disciplines and career stages to more effectively carry out their R&CA activities.
- Work with the R&CA team to develop and present information sessions workshops networking activities and other events that support faculty R&CA activities across all disciplines including strategic planning grant proposals and fellowship applications multidisciplinary collaborations project management mentoring and other activities.
- Develop and maintain asynchronous resources (website materials Canvas courses templates etc. to support R&CA activities across all disciplines.
- Provide individual and group consultations to discuss project ideas internal and external funding opportunities project management mentoring writing and other aspects of faculty R&CA work
- Work with individuals and groups to strengthen collaborations and develop sustainable R&CA teams.
- Provide developmental support for faculty as they enter leadership roles in large collaborative interdisciplinary projects.
- Provide supportive and actionable developmental feedback on grant and fellowship proposals
- Work with the CFE director and other campus leaders (Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships Office of the Provost OU Libraries Associate Deans etc. to envision develop prioritize and manage professional development resources that support OUs strategic goals. Such activities may include interfacing with external consultants evaluating services and products serving on campus committees etc.
- Cultivate strong working relationships with OU faculty unit and college leaders across all disciplines; develop familiarity with different modes and expectations of faculty roles across the Norman campus.
- Represent and advocate for CFE by serving on committees and taskforces participating in strategic planning efforts as well as contributing to curriculum/program design New Faculty Orientation mentoring groups and technology integration efforts.
- Work collaboratively with others across CFE to strengthen professional development resources and infrastructure to support holistic faculty career development including work that amplifies efforts at the intersections or teaching service and research/creative activities.
- Provide effective leadership and supervision for members of their subgroup within CFE. Develop and implement effective hiring and onboarding practices that prepare team members to support OU faculty. Create opportunities for growth and professional development within the team.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Center to develop a welcoming and collegial culture that values clear communication and mutual support.
- Continue to develop expertise in professional development support through collaborations with external networks and the profession.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
