POSITION TITLE: Instructor Assistant
REPORTS TO: Chef Instructor
FLSA STATUS: NonExempt
COMPENSATION: $19.00$24.00
LOCATION: San Diego CA

Position Summary:
The Instruction Team trains the apprentices of Kitchens for Goods Culinary Baking and Front of House apprenticeship program. The Instructor Assistant will provide operational instructional and evaluation support to Kitchens for Goods team of Instructors. The Instructor Assistant will assist in teaching a full range of technical skills and principles relative to technical training for success in the hospitality industry.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Technical Cooking or Baking Instruction
  • Support handson cooking or baking instruction in classroom setting and kitchen.
  • Support in evaluating and documenting apprentices ability to comprehend perform and retain core techniques. Provide constructive technical feedback to apprentices in real time.
  • Review recipes and lesson plans with Chef Instructor to facilitate assisting Chef Instructor during class
  • Assist Instructors in daily class preparation including station and equipment setup recipe distribution and cleanup needed for lessons and guest presentations.
  • Maintain a positiveand safelearning environment by supporting Instructor in classroom management.
  • Assists in primary apprentice instruction or assessment in the event of instructor absence.
  • Model professionalism in attitude safety professional appearance and compliance with all guidelines of Kitchens for Good Apprentice Handbook and Instruction Policy and Best Practices Handbook
Operations Support
  • Ensurefood is prepared safely efficiently and according to specifications or request.
  • Ensure the kitchen runs in accordance with all applicable health safety and hygiene codes and standards.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and tools are properly cleaned and stored
  • Support stocking of ingredients ensuring that necessary ingredients are available and as fresh as possible while also minimizing spoilage and with Inventory management.
  • Maintain and inspect kitchen equipment and utensils recommending repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Assist in upkeep of facility including but not limited to washing dishes and equipment sweeping and mopping floors disposing of garbage cleaning walkin and refrigerators and freezers and organization of equipment in classrooms.
  • Maintain organization of the kitchen with FIFO SOP and support Apprentice in direction to maintain the kitchen health and safety requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Education & Work Experience:
  • Culinary Arts degree and/or associate degree with culinary baking or hospitality focus preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years in hospitality industry
  • Promoted/Graduated Kitchens for Good Apprentice highly desired
  • Ability to relay information in a manner that provides a positive learning experience and instills a passion for the profession.
  • Ability to demonstrate concern and sensitivity towardapprenticesneeds and learning styles
  • San Diego Food Handlers Card (preferred)
Work Environment:
This job operates in a kitchen environment housed with equipment such as an oven stove dishwasher slicer coffee machine steamer mixer and chefs knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat steam fire and noise.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit stand reach lift bend kneel stoop climb push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a fulltime position nonexempt position scheduled at 40 hours a week with the ability to work a flexible schedule

Travel:
Employee will be expected to travel to as needed to additional KFG locations and employer partner must have reliable transportationand ability to work across multiple sites.
