Tribal Housing Research

Office of President

Duty Schedule:

Work hours are between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm with occasional hours on weekends. 1025 hours per week.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The Tribal Housing Research team is seeking an undergraduate student intern to support research on housing issues impacting tribal communities. This position is ideal for students interested in Indigenous studies public policy urban planning sociology or related fields. The intern will assist with data collection analysis community engagement and policy research to better understand and improve housing conditions for tribal citizens living on tribal land.

Description of Essential Functions of the Position

  • Assist in collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative housing data.
  • Conduct literature reviews and policy research related to tribal housing.
  • Support community outreach efforts including surveys interviews and focus groups.
  • Assist in preparing reports presentations and policy briefs.
  • Maintain organized records of research activities and findings.
  • Attend meetings with tribal housing authorities government agencies and stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support for research projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


Minimum:

  • Junior or Senior undergraduate Din College student that have taken Indigenous Research Methods or a similar course. Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a relevant field (e.g. Indigenous Studies Public Administration Urban Planning Sociology Political Science or a related discipline).

Preferred:

  • Junior or Senior undergraduate Din College students that have taken Indigenous Research Methods or a similar course. Strong research writing and analytical skills. Familiarity with Indigenous governance housing issues and community engagement is a plus.

Knowledge:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Google Suite and/or data analysis software preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage respectfully with tribal communities.

Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate academic commitments.

Physical Requirements Work Environment & Travel:

  • Work on campus in the field and occasionally work remotely.

Other Requirement(s):

  • Ability to speak and understand Navajo (not required).
