Your next career opportunity
As the Research and Compliance Lead for Repatriation youll play a pivotal role in shaping the University of Melbournes approach to managing and redressing historical legacy collections. Youll develop and implement best practice standards conduct vital research and due diligence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to ensure ethical and cultural compliance. This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact on repatriation efforts and Indigenous cultural respect while working in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and Implement Governance Framework: Establish robust policies and protocols ensuring compliance with regulatory ethical and cultural considerations.
  • Lead Research Initiatives: Manage research programs to support provenance and due diligence in relation to legacy collections collaborating with communities of origin.
  • Provide Oversight and Expertise: Support the University Repatriation Oversight and Compliance Committee (UROCC) and offer guidance on best practices in relation to historical legacy collections management.
  • Foster Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain strong networks with colleagues across the university and museums sectors ensuring collaborative and culturally respectful approaches.

You may be a great fit if:

You are an experienced professional with a strong background in repatriation and cultural heritage management demonstrating expertise in regulatory compliance cultural sensitivity and stakeholder engagement coupled with excellent research and leadership skills.

You may also:

  • Possess postgraduate qualifications and relevant industry experience in a complex organisation.
  • Have significant experience in interpreting and applying regulatory and ethical requirements for human tissue and remains.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills including risk mitigation.
  • Excel in building relationships with diverse stakeholders including Indigenous communities.
  • Have a sophisticated understanding of Indigenous cultural practices and experience working with Indigenous people.
