The IT Cybersecurity Engineer plays a critical role in protecting the Citys information infrastructure by identifying and mitigating cyber threats securing digital assets and implementing advanced security technologies. This position blends technical expertise with strategic responsibilities including policy development compliance oversight security awareness training and business continuity planning. The engineer is responsible for designing implementing and maintaining security systems while leading risk assessments incident response planning and the development of cybersecurity policies and continuity frameworks. The role ensures the Citys cybersecurity posture remains strong and compliant with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
The IT CyberSecurity Engineer protects the Citys digital infrastructure through proactive threat management incident response and secure system design. This role is responsible for monitoring systems analyzing threats and leading response efforts to ensure the confidentiality integrity and availability of digital assets. The engineer will also develop and enforce cybersecurity policies in alignment with industry standards such as NIST ISO 27001 HIPAA and CJIS while conducting risk assessments audits and thirdparty vendor reviews. In addition the position oversees the Citys business continuity and disaster recovery planning including impact analyses recovery objectives simulations and training. The incumbent will lead employee cybersecurity awareness programs phishing simulations and technical training for IT staff. They will also review security architecture for new technologies support patching and secure configurations and monitor emerging threats. As a key liaison between IT leadership and external stakeholders the CyberSecurity Engineer ensures the City remains prepared and resilient against cyber threats while being available for oncall support 24/7 in case of security incidents and emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Must meet one of the following qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems Computer Science Geographic Information Systems Engineering or a related field AND five 5 years of experience in a professional cybersecurity role (preferably at a Government Agency).
OR
Associates Degree in Management Information Systems Computer Science Engineering or closely related field AND seven 7 years of experience in a professional cybersecurity role (preferably at a Government Agency).
Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
Certifications
Incumbent must have one of the following cybersecurity certifications within six months of appointment:
CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker
CISM: Certified Information Security Manager
CompTIA Security
CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional
CCSP: Certified Cloud Professional
CISA: Certified Information Systems Auditor
SSCP: The Premier Security Administrator Certification
License Requirements
Must possess a valid drivers license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
