Job Description


Position: Front Desk Volunteer National AfroAmerican Museum and Cultural Center

Type: Volunteer

Schedule: Parttime unpaid 3hour shifts. Saturday work may be required for programming.

Location: NAAMCC Museum Wilberforce Ohio

Reports to: NAAMCC Education Specialist

Summary:

The people at the Front Desk are the first faces that our guests see when they enter the Museum. Our job is to make the guests feel comfortable and welcomed so that they can enjoy their Museum experience. As a Front Desk Volunteer you will learn the nuances of customer service while also learning about how to operate a PointofSale (POS) Terminal.

Our Front Desk Volunteers sign up to staff one or more 34hour shifts during the Museums hours of operation (Wednesday through Saturday 9am 4pm).

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with general museum reception and visitor services meets and greets the general public at the reception desk
  • Assists with processing museum admission as needed including cash and credit transactions
  • Provides general information about the museum exhibits and the vicinity
  • Answers the telephone and takes messages for staff members
  • Relays accurate information about planned programs/events to visitors
  • Collects visitor information and directs visitors to provide feedback
  • Commit to at least a 3 consecutivehour shift

Required Competencies:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must complete a background check
  • Must log volunteer hours
  • Must attend professional development and volunteer meetings
  • Must enjoy working with the public meeting new people partnering with staff and volunteers
  • Must possess good communication skills
  • May assist in special projects such as assisting with programs
  • May assist with other administrative tasks as directed by the staff

Education and Experience Outcomes:

  • Will learn about the history of the Museum Wilberforce and the Ohio History Connection
  • Will learn to work within a team environment
  • Will learn about aspects of visitor/hospitality services through training and onthejob experience
  • Will gain an understanding of the inner workings of a nonprofit museum
