PartTime Faculty Spanish
UMA is the third largest public university in Maine. In addition to its main campus in the states capital UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor (UMA Bangor) and through UMA Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and longterm expertise in online and distance learning UMA is generally considered the university of choice for Mainers of all ages who want to attend college without uprooting their lives.
Statement:The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the position of PartTime Faculty of Spanish. Applicants should be willing to teach distance synchronous courses. This position can be fully remote for candidates within the United States. This appointment will begin in the fall 2025 semesterand will include teaching Spanish I in the fall and Spanish 2 in the spring semester. UMA language courses follow ACTFL guidelines that language courses are taught 90 in the target language. The focus is on meaning making between students in dialogue with each other in the target language.
UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers responsive to changing professional needs; committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning; and committed to effective use of technology including distance learning.
UMA serves a mix of traditional and nontraditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates associate and baccalaureate degrees. We seek candidates whose teaching scholarship and mentorship supports our mission of transforming lives of students.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Spanish Education or a related degree
- Experience in secondary education
- Experience teaching distance synchronous
- Experience with ACTFL guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching distance synchronous using Zoom
- A strong commitment to teaching
- Previous teaching experience at a college level
- Excellent communication skills with students peers administration staff and the general public
Salary:The salary range is per credit hour and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
