About the team
The Applied team safely brings OpenAIs technology to the world. Our team launched ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode Deep Research and many other products supporting scalable infrastructure and driving safe responsible deployment. Our customers rely on our APIs to build transformative products while we ensure responsible usage and platform integrity.
The Integrity team within Applied Engineering safeguards our platform by proactively identifying misuse preventing abuse and protecting users. Were seeking an experienced handson Engineering Manager (Web Safety) to shape the future direction architect advanced system protections and lead a focused team of senior Machine Learning Engineers (MLEs).
In this role you will:
Architect and build nextgeneration system protections directly contributing through handson design model training and deployment strategies.
Lead and manage a small senior team of Machine Learning Engineers empowering them with clear direction and autonomy.
Collaborate closely with Research Safety Product and Policy teams to leverage existing tools and drive cuttingedge advancements.
Utilize stateoftheart models to detect and prevent problematic content effectively.
Establish robust evaluation frameworks and metrics clearly measuring progress and identifying areas for improvement.
Support your teams professional growth and maintain high performance through mentorship and clear career progression.
Foster a diverse inclusive culture promoting candid communication thoughtful debate and continuous learning.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Bring extensive handson experience managing machine learning teams ideally in web safety content integrity or related domains.
Have successfully trained finetuned or distilled LLMs and traditional ML models to solve realworld business problems.
Enjoy being deeply involved technicallyactively designing solutions training models and guiding deployment processes alongside your team.
Excel at collaborating across diverse teams to integrate existing tools and thoughtfully architect new solutions.
Demonstrate genuine commitment to building an inclusive growthoriented team environment.
Possess strong emotional intelligence empathy and the ability to effectively connect with colleagues across diverse backgrounds.
