Job Description

Catholic Charities San Francisco the Juvenile Probation Department (JPD) and the Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF) collaborate to provide communitybased residential services to boys ages 1218 under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Juvenile Court. The San Francisco Boys Home (SFBH) is the only shortterm residential therapeutic program (STRTP) located in the City and County of San Francisco. SFBH provides therapeutic educational rehabilitation and recreational services in a homelike setting that is staffed 24 hours a day. The youth live in a residential San Francisco house and receive therapeutic services at our adjunct Euclid House.

Salary: $26.00 $29.42 per hour

Location: On site 5 days a week

The Rehabilitation Specialist is a member of the clinical department and reports to the Program Director. The rehabilitation specialist is responsible for providing rehabilitation services to children and youth where most appropriate residence school or elsewhere. Job responsibilities include the provision of input about program services clinical review activities documentation service delivery and program evaluation.


Provides mental health services to individuals and groups in the rehabilitation program as assigned. Substitutes for other service providers when they are absent.
Provides documentation for each client following each service within the required timeframe and submit billing equal to 50 of the specialists work week.
Participates in clinical case reviews and other evaluation meetings for the purpose of providing observations and recommendations regarding the treatment needs of clients.

Participates in continuous quality improvement activities as assigned.
Offers consultation to unit staff placement workers attorneys teachers and other significant care providers involved with clients.

Education & Experience:
Per STRTP regulations candidates must meet at least one of the qualifications


Possession of a current BA or Science Degree.
Valid Child Development Teaching Permit
Completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education
Experience with children and families in a residential treatment and educational setting.
Experience with extremely dysfunctional families and seriously emotionally disturbed children.
Experience in assessment and evaluation.
Experience working in residential settings school settings and communitybased settings.
Valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor and completed at least 100 hours of onthejob experience working with youth children. The 100 hours of onthejob experience may be completed after starting employment at the facility.
Experience with HIPPA policies and compliance with federal state and local regulations


Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

Must have experience in assessments and strong crisis intervention skills particularly with people substance use disorders and associated Healthcare physical and mental health acute/chronic.
Interacting with persons from various social cultural economic and educational backgrounds to stabilize or improve housing situations.

Work as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues for successful outcomes.
Organizational awareness.
Formulate logical and objective conclusions through Client Services Plans.

Is responsible for accurate and timely data entry that aids Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) reporting and case record reviews.
Is responsible for accurate and timely submission of case records.
Serves on a quarterly case record review committee for Performance and Quality Improvement
Serves on department or program Performance and Quality Improvement PQI Committee responsible for monitoring goals and reporting.

Contact with clients who may have behavioral and psychiatric problems including shouting use of profanity and inappropriate behavioral choices.

Occasionally exposed to perfume or scents in personal care products used by clients.
Supervision: The incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions. Work is reviewed frequently. The employee performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures and receives instructions on assignments new policies or projects.
May include contact with clients with mental health issues who demonstrate behaviors such as use of profanity shouting running away selfharm and violence.
Occasional need to interact with clients that may be expressing anger both appropriately and in appropriately.
The work environment includes contact with many children who may be loud and at times behaviorally challenged.
The worker is occasionally exposed to PPE cleaning products.
