Civil Design Engineer

• Team Leadership
  • Responsible for supporting the broader region including the related supervision of advisors and contractors
  • Integrating with the civil engineering and design functions in ENERTRAG globally
  • Development and expansion of technical infrastructure and process to optimise civil designs and support the design base
• Optimisation of civil layouts and related conceptual preliminary and detailed designs for ESA projects (Wind PV Storage and PtX). 
  • Execute civil engineering design in development and preconstruction project delivery through to detailed design and commercial operation. Support on related inputs into the Employers Requirements and construction contracts including development of RfPs evaluation of bids selection of contractors and the development of the related technical schedules in full form construction and operations contracts:
    • Roads stormwater crane pads and hardstands
    • Power lines and cables
    • Substations
    • Wind turbines
    • Solar PV arrays
    • Energy storage system
    • Supporting infrastructure (construction camps office buildings control centers etc)
• Civil design base
  • Support development of the ENERTRAG civil design database of the South African / Regional projects: 
    • Reports
    • Drawings and diagrams
    • Bills of Quantities
    • Cost estimates
    • Standards and specifications
    • Plans
    • Field surveys and assessments to collect data for project planning and site evaluations.
• Commercial awareness 
  • Commercial awareness with a good understanding of project budgeting cost control and the financial aspects of construction projects. Collaborate with commercial teams to understand project budgets timelines and financial considerations providing input on costeffective design alternatives. Basic knowledge of contracts with an interest in learning more about contract management.
• Project Reporting
  • Proactive reporting on the status and the progress of project civil engineering and design aspects. 
• Civil planning and design integration
  • Provide civil engineering and design inputs into the development of the ENERTRAG portfolio of projects conceptual designs preliminary designs and final designs.
• Public relation
  • Coordinate and collaborate with public authorities communities and government institutions to secure necessary permits and approvals for civil layouts and designs.
• Decision Making
  • Making decisions on project civil engineering and design matters within the authority given by management
• Knowledge collection and sharing
  • Compile specific information regarding requirements for the civil engineering and design base and the related workshopping thereof.
• Advocacy and networking
  • Represent ENERTRAG in industry forums and working groups. Engage stakeholders and municipalities as regards civil engineering layouts and designs including new/novel approaches.

Qualification

• Field of Study
  • Engineering (Civil or similar) Construction or related field
• Type of Training
  • University degree or diploma
• Relevant Professional Experience
  • 02 years of experience in civil engineering preferably with exposure to renewable energy construction or infrastructure projects.
• Additional qualification(s)/certificates
  • Working towards Professional Registration (Engineering Council of South Africa) is advantageous

Experience 

• Civil planning and layouts
  • Facility layout planning and civil infrastructure design for simple and hybrid power generation facilities utilizing GIS and AutoCAD software.
• Civil design
  • Design of civil infrastructure related to roads stormwater infrastructure foundations geotechnical analysis buildings substations and power lines generation plant and energy storage systems.
• Civil codes and standards
  • Knowledge and implementation of the local standards and codes impacting on the civil engineering and design of power generation/storage/PtX projects.
