Job Description

WHO WE ARE

Provides professional Industrial hygiene and occupational safety expertise to all Council staff and facilities in compliance with local state and federal laws standards and regulations.

What you would do in this job

  • Develops administers and issues standards policies and procedures educating and protecting employees from health hazards associated in their workplace.
  • Assures compliance with OSHA Hazard Communication Standards and the Minnesota RighttoKnow regulation; develops conducts and coordinates training.
  • Provides technical assistance and support in monitoring and controlling employee exposure to hazardous chemicals and harmful physical agents. Serves as a resource in Chemical Emergency Response Planning.
  • Assists with chemical approval process and safety data sheet management.
  • Develops coordinates and implements safety related programs.
  • Develops and administers annual medical monitoring.
  • Measures and monitors effectiveness of ventilation systems.
  • Evaluates work sites and provides coaching and technical expertise in ergonomics.
  • Conducts safety surveys of equipment worksites or construction design phases; evaluates and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Attends facility safety and AWAIR meetings as needed or requested.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)


Education: Bachelors degree in Safety/Industrial Hygiene or closely related field.
Experience: Five 5 years of related professional experience.
Licenses/Certifications/Registration: Must have or be able to attain a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certificate within two years. A valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of all State of Minnesota and Federal laws regulations rules codes and standards pertaining to occupational health.
  • Knowledge of and experience using a variety of equipment used in the field.
  • Good working knowledge of accident prevention process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform airquality testing for a variety of contaminates.
  • Ability to perform employee exposure assessments.
