Job Description

Hope For Youths Residential Services Department provides community based trauma informed youth and family driven care to adolescents and young adults in Nassau and Suffolk County. Serving youth from varying points of entry with the child welfare system juvenile justice system and runaway and homeless youth/young adults the opportunities to alter the trajectory for youth in need are abundant. Youth are supported 24/7 by a team of multidisciplinary professionals paraprofessionals and agency administration that consistently meets standards for accreditation and licensing regulations.


Hope For Youths residential caseworker is a vital team member for the Adolescent Diagnostic and Respite Services program. Supporting youth involved with the child welfare system juvenile justice system and respite bed network the caseworker meets youth needs and build strengths utilizing trauma informed Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and motivational interviewing skills. Responsibilities include but are not limited to completing psychosocial assessments as part of comprehensive diagnostic evaluations gathering documentation creating youth and family driven service plans communitybased work (home visits) keeping connection to family and resources supporting youth during crisis and participating in treatment team conferences. To be a successful Residential Caseworker you must be ready willing and able to do the following always:

  • Function within the agency policy and procedures as outlined in the program practice guide and employee manual.
  • Obtaining necessary documentation to prepare psychosocial assessments and final reviews
  • Preparing case updates and psychosocial assessments; home visits; parent and youth interviews
  • Supervising and documenting of family visits; progress notes
  • Preparing incident reports and notifications as needed
  • Supporting the overall functioning of the program and residents from a trauma informed perspective
  • Perform other resulting and necessary work to meet the needs and requirements of the clients the program Hope For Youth oversight agency and any other regulatory obligations

How you will generally spend your time in this job:

  • Supporting youth in program and field work
  • Documentation and related paperwork
  • Staff meetings committees supervision
  • Training and staff development
  • Other assignments as needed

To qualify for this job you need to be or have at minimum:

  • Bachelors degree in social work or related field
  • Valid NYS Drivers License in good standing and ability to safely operate a 7passenger agency vehicle
  • Excellent writing skills/time management
  • Bilingual preferred
  • One year experience working with at risk youth preferred
  • Ability to be flexible with scheduling
  • Physical Requirements: read/write reports and log entries walking/standing/sitting for prolonged periods bending/stooping kneeling/squatting climbing stairs reaching overhead repetitive wrist/finger movements ongoing access to reliable vehicle and driving own vehicle for work



This opportunity is being offered as FullTime 35hrs/ week MondayFriday 9am5pm with flexible late days
