The Aquatics Supervisor is a leadership position within the Division of Recreation Programming. This role oversees recreation and aquatic facility management staff supervision budgeting and programming for all of Mountain Recreations aquatic facilities. Pools managed by this position include the Gypsum Recreation Center (indoor) Eagle Pool and Ice Rink (summer outdoor) and Gypsum Creek Pool (summer outdoor). The Aquatics Supervisor achieves goals through the supervision of a large team of seasonal parttime and fulltime aquatics staff.

Schedule: FullTime; Exempt
Work Environment: Work schedule is varied and may require evenings weekends and holidays. Hours vary depending upon specific program needs.

The flow of work and character of duties require high levels of mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Job stress may include dealing with crowds uncooperative participants difficult individuals emergency response sun exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand.
Supervision Required: Works under the general guidance and direction of the Superintendent of Recreation Programs.
Supervision Exercised: Directs and supervises Aquatics Coordinator Specialists parttime and seasonal employees volunteers instructors and coaches.
Salary: $67631$84539 annually DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

General Statement of Duties: Planning implementing and organizing district aquatic recreation programs services and pool operations while occasionally serving in a frontline role and providing highquality recreation opportunities for the community.
Examples of Duties:
- Staff Management: Hires trains and schedules parttime staff with teamwork and efficiency as primary goals; reviews and evaluates staff to maximize program quality customer service and productivity. Handles disciplinary issues with staff as necessary.
- Aquatic Program Oversight: Supervises and conducts aquatic programs to achieve departmental and community service goals as assigned; collects data on aquatic programs for review.
- Administration: Reviews and approves biweekly aquatics staff timecards and ensures accurate payroll processing in coordination with the Human Resources team.
- Budget Management: Assists with the development of the aquatics budget in assigned areas; monitors program revenues and expenditures to remain within budget.
- Registration & Marketing Support: Inputs information for online registration using registration software. Assists with marketing and promotional efforts for programs in coordination with the Marketing and Communications Manager.
- Swim Lesson Coordination: Coordinates and teaches American Red Cross Group and Private Swim lessons delegating to parttime staff first and supplementing their availability by teaching in the water.
- Communication with Participants and Instructors: Communicates with program participants and instructors via telephone or email regarding class cancellations program changes added classes processing refunds and responding to all correspondence.
- High Country Swim League Operations: Assists with High Country Swim League operations including hosting swim meets and supervising swim coaches.
- Facility Operations: Assists in the daytoday operations of the facilities ensuring they are safe and operating properly.
- Pool Equipment Monitoring and Maintenance: Independently monitors pool mechanical systems and equipment possessing the knowledge and ability to perform general maintenance (e.g. backwashing cleaning chemical feeders) and troubleshooting issues that may arise in the pump room water chemistry or facilities.
- Water Chemistry Management: Tests and ensures that water chemistry is maintained within safe limits in accordance with Colorado State Health Department regulations and aquatic practices.
- Aquatic Personnel Training: Conducts aquatic personnel training sessions (e.g. inservice) on topics related to the aquatic field.
- Seasonal Facility Management: Oversees the preseason opening and winterization of outdoor aquatics facilities at the end of the season.
- Emergency Response: Responds to emergency situations as a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard.
- Customer Service: Provides exemplary customer service to internal and external guests by addressing requests suggestions and complaints regarding recreation services and programs.
- Program Registration and Promotion: Inputs online information for registration in Amilia software and assists with marketing and promotional efforts for programs in coordination with the Marketing & Community Engagement Director.
- Meetings and Staff Orientation: Attends required meetings including Eagle Pool and Ice Rink summer staff orientation Mountain Recreation AllStaff meetings High Country Swim League pre and postseason meetings Mountain Recreation Board and Community meetings and lifeguard inservice training.
- Community Engagement and Program Development: Seeks and obtains community input on assigned program areas and develops new programs and services that align with the Districts mission and goals while meeting community needs and interests.
- Inventory Management: Establishes a process for accurate inventory management of recreation equipment office equipment and keys.
- Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of: Knowledge of theory development practices implementation and evaluation in the assigned program area; age and activityappropriate program planning; recreation program risk management; and facilities and equipment required for the assigned program area.
Skills and abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to organize direct and motivate employees in lifeguarding swim instruction and facility maintenance roles.
- Familiarity with pool mechanical systems chemical dosing and chemical safety protocols.
- Strong decisionmaking and conflictresolution skills including sound judgment on when to involve law enforcement.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written including in highstress situations.
- Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service and establish positive working relationships with staff community groups and the public.
- Knowledge of recreation programming planning facilities management and risk management.
Tools and Equipment Used: Safety and rescue equipment small hand tools for minor pool maintenance phone/walkietalkie chemical test kit pool vacuum brushes pressure washer and various pool cleaning supplies.
Requirements:
Education and experience:
- Bachelors degree in Recreation or a related field; OR
- Three years of progressive work experience in direct leadership and supervision of recreation programs specifically related to aquatics; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge skills and ability to perform the duties described above.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).
Certifications:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (required)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) (required)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
- CPO/AFO or ability to obtain within 3 months
