The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (League) was founded in 1972 as one of the countrys first state Primary Care Associations (PCAs). Established under the same federal authorizing legislation as the health center program (Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act) PCAs are organized around a set of core functions and competencies that provide a framework for support and assistance to health centers and the communities they serve. The League is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization registered as a public charity with the Commonwealths Secretary of State. It maintains a professional staff at its headquarters in Boston and its training center in Worcester.
Position Summary:
The Controller performs a wide range of duties with primary responsibility for the coordination of the organizations financial records and information systems and oversight of daytoday financial matters. Responsible for monthend close and to provide accurate and timely information and support to the VP Finance for monthly financial statements. Under the supervision of the VP Finance and in accordance with League policies and procedures manage the following areas: Payroll including all communications with Payroll provider W2 and ACA processing PTO reporting Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Cash Management including accounts receivable and cash receipts reconcile bank statements reconcile balance sheet accounts tax payments associated with Commonwealth Purchasing Group and the monthend closing through trial balance.
Essential Functions:
(The following is a list of essential functions which may be subject to change at any time and without advance notice. Management may assign new duties reassign existing duties or eliminate a role. Responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following.
- Prepare reports and documentation for the annual audit; with support from the VP Finance manage the outside audit.
- Assure compliance with State Federal and local governmental units and regulations including appropriate filings tax payments and reporting.
- Oversee and process biweekly payroll and maintenance of payroll records system and accounting documentation process monthly retirement contributions.
- Manage the timely and accurate operation of accounts payable and accounts receivable & cash receipts.
- Oversee processing of the weekly Accounts Payable check run including final review of all entries and processing of checks.
- Oversee the daily activities of the Senior Staff Accountants and review their work prior to posting transactions.
- Review of Accounts Receivable Aging monthly with VP Finance Senior Director Grants Contracts & Billing to ensure timely identification of collection issues and necessary followup.
- Monitor accounts that require special attention e.g. fixed assets and restricted funding and gifts depreciation schedule. Provide reports and accounting.
- Manage the monthend closing process through trial balance.
- Assure timely monthly bank statement reconciliation & reconciliation with affiliate organizations.
- Enter general monthly journal entries into the system as required.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion and reporting of daytoday accounting work with minimal supervision in a highvolume accounting environment.
- Support VP Finance in completion of the annual audit and tax filings.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Stay abreast of all major events transactions and initiatives at the organization.
- Maintain the accounting system (Sage Intacct) and ensure all constituents can access reports and data.
Requirements:
- Education: BS in finance or accounting required MBA preferred CPA a plus.

- 7 plus years of professional experience managing accounting budget and financial reporting operations for nonprofit organizations.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting rules nonprofit accounting including fund and grant accounting compliance and reporting. Government grant and contract management a plus.
- Proficient in the design and maintenance of accounting and financial management systems internal controls finance policies and procedures development and business planning and analysis.
- Understanding of contractual agreement structures and the ability to effectively coordinate legal counsel support.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 general ledger budgeting and financial reporting packages. Experience with Sage MIP a plus.
- Experience using accounting and financial software applications databases and expertise in Excel.
- Proactive creative flexible responsive handson strategic thinker with vigilant attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and to work independently as well as in a collegial manner as a team player is essential. Requires exceptional time management and good organizational skills. Accuracy with numbers is necessary.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to talk and hear regularly. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 80 of the time. The employee needs to move inside and outside the office to access file cabinets office equipment meet with community partners at different sites. The position requires occasionally lifting office products and supplies up to 50 pounds and traveling to various locations for meetings.
