KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the school Principal the Advisor sustains a college going culture for all students ensure that all seniors apply to at least one 4year college and support students successful transition to college and career.
The Advisor will engage in mentorship and professional development to:
- Support and guide all 12th grade students through each step of the college and financial aid application process
- Provide career readiness learning curriculum for advisories in all grade levels
- Learn about special opportunities for low income students in the college search and application process (i.e. fee waivers flyin visits university partner programs and scholarships)
- Build partnership with college admissions and career placement services
- Plan and lead workshops for parents and other stakeholders on key topics (financial aid planning different types of institutions scholarships etc) related to the college admissions process
- Engage in monthly self reflection and professional goal setting including research of and potential matriculation into a PPSC (Pupil Personnel Services Credential or equivalent) to eventually become a credentialed school Counselor.
College Advising
- With support: guide all 12th grade students through each step of the college and financial aid application process
- With support: Advise seniors through the admissions cycle including but not limited to: creating a college list writing and revising the personal statement advising on financial aid and making final matriculation decisions
- Write and manage the collection of Letters of Recommendations for all seniors including providing professional development and coaching for the Letter of Recommendation writing process for all teachers
Student Academic Case Management
- Implement individual support efforts for students outside the sphere of academic success.
- Collaborate with Administration to implement systems to monitor collect and analyze data on case management and support efforts for students outside the sphere of success including progress report calls and intervention plans.
College/University Relationship Development
- With support: Contact and meet with campus admissions representatives to build positive relationships and market Envision and its college applicants including annual college trips.
- With support: Become familiar with the academic and social environments at the various colleges seniors are considering in an effort to recommend suitable matches
- With support: Develop and maintain a robust network of college admission professionals through regular communication and high school visits from colleges and universities that best support first generation low income college students.
- Ensure that a robust group of colleges are visiting the Envision campus and meeting with students.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Note: As a noncredentialed employee the Advisor is not permitted to engage in any counseling activities with students and families including by not limited to individual counseling services Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) group counseling services Behavior Intervention Services and/or Parent Counseling and Social Work Services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree.
- 1 years experience providing academic career and/or college mentorship/advising services to high school students
- Demonstrated success working with parents and families especially Black African American Latino/a/x and immigrant families.
- Bilingual Spanish speakers preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Competitive pay with benefits $35/hour. This is an 11 month nonexempt 40 hours per week position.
