SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under the direction of the Superintendent the Director of Equity and Community Engagement will lead the development and implementation of equity and community engagement initiatives in support of the Districts strategic plan. In collaboration with the administrative leadership team the Director will execute the Superintendents vision that results in an equitable and inclusive K12 educational experience for students staff and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Facilitates the promotion of the District commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion through interaction with stakeholders inside and outside the District.
  1. Develop and implement professional development to promote equity inclusion cultural understanding and cultural competency.
  2. Work in partnership with Teaching and Learning Department to embed equitable culturally responsive instruction and leadership practices within staff professional development.
  3. Facilitate the delivery of professional development related to cultural competency and antibias training for certificated and classified staff.
  4. Works collaboratively with Districtlevel instructional leaders and supports the use of culturally relevant pedagogy and practice.
  5. Supports strategic engagement with communitybased organizations and partners to leverage resources in service of shared goals and outcomes for students.
  6. Collaborates with District leadership to create implement and monitor programs designed to ensure just and equitable outcomes for students families and staff.
  7. Collaborate with the Human Resources Department to ensure systemic accountability regarding recruitment of a diverse employee population and retention of current staff.
  8. Supports Districtwide diversity councils multicultural event programming and youth events.
  9. Identify community partnership opportunities.
  10. Supports the development and implementation of community engagement plans for districtwide initiatives.
  11. Act as a District liaison in support of communities of color and other diverse groups.
  12. Facilitate opportunities for student voice in matters related to diversity equity and inclusion.
  13. Gathers researches and analyzes data for use in statistical calculations and reporting in order to meet federal and state requirements in the area of equity diversity and inclusion.
  14. Assists with compliance and development of policies and procedures related to equity diversity and inclusion.
  15. Supervise assigned personnel by providing appropriate levels of support and accountability (e.g. hiring developing evaluating planning scheduling/coordinating activities coaching advising terminating etc. to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
  16. Manages the department budget including developing budget proposals justifying expenses and monitoring accounts.
  17. Stays abreast of advances in the area of diversity and prepares written materials (e.g. procedures reports memos letters budgets etc. for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  18. Works collaboratively with legal counsel and respective Council member regarding cases involving diversity issues.
  19. Collaborates with students and families to problem solve complaints of harassment and discrimination complaints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Masters degree
  • Five 5 years of experience in a multicultural multiethnic school/community environment preferably as a teacher or social worker.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of racial and cultural differences; sensitivity to issues and concerns of communities of color and other diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and legal standards pertaining to Civil Rights Title I and other relevant topics.
  • Knowledge and skills in dispute resolution effective decisionmaking organization and time management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in leading equity diversity and inclusion and/or cultural competency work in large organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with programs/initiatives/research in the areas of equity and equality diversity and inclusion cultural competency cultural awareness cross cultural communication and organizational change management
  • Demonstrated skill of team player with experience working within a culturally diverse workplace.
  • Demonstrated skill of analytics and problemsolving.
  • Exemplary skills in written and oral language with the ability to communicate respectfully clearly and concisely by telephone in person and in written form.
  • Skill at negotiating and consensus building to support administrative decisions and programs.
  • Skills and ability in organization time management task prioritization and record keeping.
  • Ability to stay uptodate on advances in the area of equity.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and a variety of responsibilities.
  • Ability to keep current on Civil Rights Coordinator and Title IX required trainings.
  • Ability to be a trusted advisor while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a selfstarter multifaceted thinking.
  • Ability to research issues and problems interpret and analyze data prepare comprehensive reports and recommend sound conclusions.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty staff and administrators to develop and implement uses of educational best practices in area of diversity.
  • Ability to lead and manage professional and classified staff.
  • Ability todemonstrate reasonable reliable and regularattendanceand punctuality.
  • Ability to coordinate large projects with multiple activities and diverse participants.
  • Ability to build collaborative productive teams.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed in an office or enclosed facility environment. Some exposure to inclement weather may occur. This position is required to travel extensively to and between school sites. Occasionally lifts 30 pounds. Must be able to talk and use fingers hands and arms and to listen carefully and focus while filtering out normal office noise. Teamwork and high productivity requirements create frequent extra hour days attendance at meetings before and after work and weekend work. Dexterity of fingers and hands to operate a computer keyboard.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31 are eligible for medical dental vision long term disability and basic life insurance benefits. RETIREMENT AND DEFERRED COMPENSATION
