POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

JOB STATUS: All Applicants

JOB TITLE: Bus Mechanic

LOCATION: District Office

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

CALENDAR: 245 Days ayear

HOURS: Full Time

SALARY: $23.87 27.97/hour plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY:
Perform major mechanical repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below
  • Hold a CDL with passenger endorsement or able to attain preferred
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Pass a drug and alcohol test criminal background check and physical examination
  • Perform work which involves frequent lifting pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds
  • May be required to work around foul odors and loud noise
  • Be willing to attend and satisfactorily complete at least 30 hours of training as required in the State Transportation Manual
  • Advanced knowledge of diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Analyze engine performance and perform tune ups as needed.
  2. Evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles using diagnostic equipment and appropriate technology.
  3. Help mechanics evaluate minor mechanical problems and inspect repairs completed.
  4. Rebuild replace or repair major vehicle components assemblies and systems including engines transmission suspensions etc.
  5. Check and repair electrical and cooling systems and install heaters and similar accessories.
  6. Do welding and perform minor body work.
  7. Estimate time and materials required to perform major repairs.
  8. Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care.
  9. Maintain accurate updated preventive maintenance records.
  10. Abide by all laws rules and regulations in the State of Idaho Transportation Manual.
  11. Operate tools equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  12. Ensure shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.
  13. Correct unsafe conditions in work are and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  14. Operate buses and vehicles as needed.
  15. Supervise monitor and direct work of mechanics.
  16. Communicate effectively with the school staff and the public.
  17. Check to be sure the lights all equipment tires and brakes are safe before driving a bus.
  18. Know and follow district policy and chain of command.
  19. Deal with students parents staff and others in a positive encouraging manner.
  20. Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
