We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our technical team for the Services platform and Publishing platform. The vision of the services platform team is to provide a robust platform with the foundational building blocks and capabilities that enable flexible reliable performant and scalable products across the organization. Our inhouse publishing platform serves as an umbrella for all of our internal tools that manage documents document data and publishing workflows.
The Director of Engineering will oversee all engineering activities within the platforms ensuring efficient project delivery team collaboration and technical innovation. This role requires a strong leader who can motivate and guide teams towards achieving ambitious goals while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
Primary responsibilities:
Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering team.
Team Management: Manage and mentor a team of engineers fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
Technical Excellence: Ensure the technical feasibility and integrity of projects through sound architecture code reviews and best practices.
Collaboration: Work closely with product management design and other crossfunctional teams to deliver on product roadmaps and business goals.
Innovation: Drive technical innovation and excellence in engineering processes.
Recruitment: Lead recruitment efforts to attract top engineering talent conducting interviews and making hiring decisions.
Performance Management: Establish KPIs and metrics to measure engineering performance and productivity.
Required Skills:
Proven experience of 12 years in a leadership role within engineering with a track record of successfully leading and managing highperforming teams.
Experience working in multiple backend technology frameworks in multiple languages. Practical knowledge of languages such as Java REST Python Angular NodeJS VueJS and cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP) is preferred. Knowledge of databases like PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of system design for highly performant systems. Experience with service architecture horizontal scalability and managing large data sets is preferred.
You are communicative highly organized facilitative assertive situationally aware enthusiastic continually improving who values transparency is able to foster a cohesive team culture and strives to empower your teams.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts and strategies to nontechnical stakeholders.
You are comfortable operating in ambiguous situations and helping teams arrive at a decision.
You are willing to roll up your sleeves and have a cando spirit.
Good to Have:
Prior experience working in a major publishing company.
Relevant certifications are a plus.
