Position Description


Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist

FLSA: Exempt

Job Status: Full Time

Reporting Functions: Reports to the Principal


Job Function: This is a fulltime position providing and teaching speech and language services to students with identified needs by conducting assessments and recommending and providing appropriate remediation services to students. Provides consultation to teachers and staff to meet the speech and language needs of the students in all classroom settings.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adapts educational materials and equipment for the purpose of providing intervention and/or meeting the individual students needs.

  • Serve as a resource and assist in facilitating meetings/communications between therapists teachers staff parents etc. for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding students goals.

  • Collects data on student achievements for the purpose of documenting activities preparing reports and/or updating IEPs.

  • Maintains and prepares a wide variety of manual and electronic materials (e.g. charts logs records and/or reports) for the purpose of documenting activities and conveying information.

  • Maintains augmentative communication devices and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of required tools.

  • Participates in parent/teacher conferences and IEP meetings inservice training for the purpose of receiving or conveying information related to job responsibilities.

  • Perform diagnostic speechlanguage therapy assessments and administer the necessary treatment based on IEP goals and objectives.

  • Knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Systems including signing and/or communication boards.

  • Addresses students language voice fluency articulation and nonverbal communication needs within a variety of settings i.e. onetoone small group and/or integrated in the classroom for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of speech and language deficits.

  • Write/develop progress reports for every semester based on goals and objectives written in the students IEP.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information gained in the performance of daily responsibilities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology

  • PA certification in SpeechLanguage Pathology



Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of and experience with the development of appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Remain knowledgeable of current trends and federal and state regulations in the field of speechlanguage pathology and special education to ensure competency.

  • Keep certifications and licensure current.

  • Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use jobrelated equipment.

  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances with a diversity of individuals.

  • Background clearances required (Child Abuse PA Criminal Check Fingerprinting Mandated Reporter Training and Protecting Gods Children Training).

Physical Demands: Sitting and standing for extended periods of time. May frequently move or lift children weighing up to 100 lbs. from wheelchairs to tables or desks. Frequent bending at the waist kneeling crouching and pushing or pulling to assist students is also required. May reach overhead as well as above shoulders and horizontally. Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities or run medical and instructional equipment is required as is hearing and speaking to exchange information make presentations hear in a noisy environment and locate the source of a sound. Reading a variety of materials and monitoring student activities is required. Possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.


Working Conditions: Work in a variety of settings including classrooms and community settings; the position is only available during the school year; 8:15 AM 3:00 PM. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend schoolrelated events.
