Position Purpose
Responsible for providing psychotherapy crisis intervention consultation and mental health outreach and educational services to enhance the psychological and emotional welfare of PEA students.
This is a fulltime academic year schedule including one week prior to the beginning of school and possible summer school coverage 5 weeks). There is a shared responsibility among all counselors to provide oncall coverage (Days Evenings Nights Weekends) and rotational coverage. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs.
Job Responsibilities
Clinical/Counseling
- Assess selfreferred and schoolreferred students using evidencebased diagnostic techniques.
- Provide shortterm and longterm individual psychotherapy to students using evidencebased best practices
- Provide culturally affirming psychotherapy to students including students from historically marginalized groups such as: students of color LGBTQ and gender expansive students and students of varying abilities.
- Ensure that clinical consultative and educational practices are sensitive to the needs and experiences of our diverse community including socioeconomic status gender identity and expression sexuality race ethnicity religion or country of origin.
- Share oncall responsibilities with other CAPS team members. When oncall be available by mobile phone 24/7 to receive calls from the Health Center.
- Provide crisis assessment and intervention for students as necessary.
- Consult with and provide support to parents and other student caregivers faculty staff deans and Health Services staff regarding individual students.
- Refer students to specialized care as necessary and appropriate.
- Consult with other Academy clinicians (e.g. Director or Associate Director of CAPS nurses midlevel providers physicians) about complex cases emergency interventions or whenever immediate safety and health concerns arise about students.
- Participate in clinical supervision with Director or Associate Director of CAPS as per the supervision guidelines of the American Psychological Association and the National Association of Social Workers.
- Participate in weekly case management meetings with the Academys consulting psychiatrist(s) and/or psychiatric nurse practitioner(s).
- Participate in weekly CAPS department meetings weekly Health Center clinical team meetings weekly faculty meetings weekly Academy Student Assistance Program meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Attend AdvisorTeacher meetings as assigned typically once per week in a consultative and informationgathering role.
- Work collaboratively with the Lamont Health and Wellness Center staff to creatively support and improve the health and wellness needs of students.
Administrative
- Maintain clear accurate and timely documentation in accordance with the Academys data collection recordkeeping and legal reporting obligations/requirements.
- Maintain records on all clinical encounters using the Health Centers electronic health record system.
- Contribute to CAPSs communityfacing presence such as: writing an occasional blog post for the Parent Newsletter providing content to update CAPSs web pages participating in informal educational events for prospective and new students and their families.
Educational
- Provide consultation regarding adolescent development and mental health for a variety of Academy constituents including students parents staff and faculty.
- Provide outreach education and customized workshops to students on select topics in adolescent mental health and wellness.
- Serve as needed as an advisor to student leaders and clubs or as a member of an Academy committee whose purpose involves some aspect of psychology or student wellbeing.
- Maintain professional licensure in the State of New Hampshire either as a clinical psychologist or a licensed independent clinical social worker.
- As required for professional licensure adhere at all times to the American Psychological Associations Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.
- Behave at all times in a professional manner that respects appropriate adultstudent boundaries and in a way that is consistent with the Academys expectations for employee conduct.
- Adhere at all times to the laws and regulations that govern licensed psychologists or licensed independent clinical social workers in the State of New Hampshire including mandated reporting obligations.
- As required for the maintenance and renewal of your professional license in the State of New Hampshire participate in 40 hours of Continuing Education every two years.
Knowledge Skills and Competencies
- Outstanding clinical skills including the use of evidencebased practices for treating adolescent mental health problems.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in cognitive behavioral therapy with additional training and experience in treatment modalities such as dialectical behavioral therapy acceptance commitment therapy and/or motivational enhancement therapy.
- Postlicensure experience working with adolescents and families in a range of clinical settings including at least one that involved working as part of a care team such as a hospital a community mental health clinic or a school.
- Respect for the diversity of your own and others identities and experiences an orientation toward equity and inclusion and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
- Ability to work independently handle multiple caseloads and meet deadlines while simultaneously maintaining accurate records and consulting with colleagues as appropriate.
- Adherence to legal and ethical best practices as noted above. These best practices include those articulated by New Hampshire State Law local memoranda of understanding (MOUs) and either the American Psychological Association or the National Association of Social Workers.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients privacy as well as the ability to participate in mandated reporting procedures as required by law.
- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse cohort of adolescents to build trust and credibility.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships and work under stress while simultaneously delivering the highest level of clinical service.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to write concise logical analytical reports to communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences including other clinicians parents and other caregivers.
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Strong presentation skills and presence in front of small and large audiences.
- Strong communication skills including the ability to: write and respond to messages in a timely fashion; deliver presentations (e.g. case summaries educational workshops) to small and large audiences; and collaborate with empathy compassion and professionalism.
- Ability and willingness to travel (by car air train or bus) domestically and internationally as needed.
- High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multitask with competence and accuracy.
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions maintain a professional demeanor and receptivity to constructive feedback.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Willingness and ability to learn additional software applications as needed.
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required.
- PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology or LICSW required.
- Licensure in the State of New Hampshire.
Experience
- Three or more years of fulltime postlicensure clinical experience working with an adolescent and/or young adult population
- Experience working with diverse groups of people with understanding that racial cultural religious gender and sexual identities interact with ones beliefs and behavior.
- Experience and skill treating eating disorders anxiety and mood disorders substance abuse posttraumatic stress and interpersonal problems.
- Experience and skill responding to suspected child abuse or neglect and alleged .
- Experience and skill working collaboratively to develop facilitate and coordinate prevention programs for adolescents.
- Experience and skill working collaboratively to develop facilitate and coordinate professional development and training programs for faculty and staff in secondary education.
- A record of service that demonstrates concern for the safety and wellbeing of others.
