The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is looking for an energetic experienced person to provide groundskeeping and building maintenance and repair services at Daniel Boone Homestead a historic site in Birdsboro Pennsylvania. This Maintenance Repairman 2 position performs regular repair work on the sites structures systems and grounds; maintains site equipment; assists with site groundskeeping; and supports site operations by assisting with visitor services and special events.

Daniel Boone Homestead is a 579acre property comprised of 30 structures (including important historic buildings); a water powered sawmill a graveyard streams a lake miles of fencing considerable macadam and gravel roads and parking lots wells/water purification systems underground water and sewer system telephone and electric lines crop lands miles of hiking and bridle trails an orchard gardens significant flora and fauna and important natural/cultural landscape and archaeological features. As the sites Maintenance Repairman 2 (hereafter referred to as MR2 you will be called upon to exercise your carpentry construction electrical mechanical plumbing and landscaping/grounds keeping trades skills on a daily basis. You will also help to ensure that the site is clean presentable and ready to be enjoyed by the thousands of guests who visit each year.
As a steward of the historic site you will perform regular repair and preventative maintenance work as needed on the sites historic and nonhistoric structures systems grounds and equipment. This includes performing groundskeeping tasks (including mowing) repairing site equipment responding appropriately to emergencies as they arise and addressing infrastructure and building repairs.
You will utilize hand and power tools to perform rough and finish general carpentry work in the maintenance and preservation of the modern and historic buildings; perform repairs to the plumbing and electrical infrastructure; carry out landscaping maintenance (using zeroturn mowers a tractor leaf vacuum blower shrub and tree trimmers other small equipment and a plow and salt spreader); ensure the good operation of the sites equipment through preventative maintenance and repair; clean site facilities and restrooms; assist with special program setup and teardown; operate the historic sawmill for demonstrations; and be responsible for the fire and security systems and their monitoring including answering after hours alarms.
As the MR2 you will also support overall site operations through courteous and professional customer service and by working cooperatively with the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates to achieve a shared interest in both the preservation and success of the site.
The MR2 at Daniel Boone Homestead is one of a twoperson maintenance crew and thus must be a reliable selfmotivated and hardworking individual skilled in a variety of trades and in creative problem solving. You will need to be capable of handling emergencies as needed and carrying out a multitude of maintenancerelated tasks all while following PHMC safety rules and adhering to the agencys Core Values.
