SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

This position is located within the Clover Park School District Maintenance & Operations departments community aquatics program and under the direct supervision of the Facilities & Recreation Coordinator and Pool Lead.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as lifeguard for indoor pools responsible for pool patrons safety/health in attendance. Provides maximum surveillance of pool area and rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Keeps accurate records/reports and adequate supplies.
  • Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from any hazards; provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
  • Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed; Participate in any required training.
  • Works independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Follows and enforces the intent of all pool rules.
  • Correctly completes all assigned paperwork.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to pass prerequisite lifeguard certification test. Training & Lifeguard certification upon hire
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Satisfactorily completion of a preemployment verification (fingerprint) scan prior to first day of employment.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures general rules & regulations.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use maturity in judgment and interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
  • Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies incidents and rule breaking.
  • Ability to be focused and alert to prevent hazardous situations.
  • Knowledge of proper lifesaving equipment and its use.
  • Water lifesaving skills and techniques of lifeguarding.
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate aquatic program information effectively with staff and public.
  • Ability to remain calm under noisy and confusing conditions.
  • Ability to respond effectively and successfully to ensure the safety of others and to apply first aid/CPR when necessary.
  • Ability to work with a staff students and community members from diverse academic socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Certification and Licenses

  • Possesses and maintains the following certifications
  • Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or Nationally recognized equivalent (training provided)
  • American Red Cross CardioPulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); (training provided)
  • First Aid. (training provided)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION

  • Experience as a lifeguard.
  • Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or Nationally recognized equivalent
  • Experience working with school age children.
  • Previous experience working with the public in a customer service role.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor recreational pool subject to noise and distractions. Variable work schedules including evenings weekends holidays and/or special events as required. Physical agility and stamina; lifting walking and overall physical movement; carrying pushing or pulling; occasional heavy lifting up to 100 pounds (during rescue); sitting and standing for extended periods of time; vision to monitor individual activities and read program materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information to others. Occasionally responds to crisis situations in and out of the pool. May deal with distraught or angry parent children or community members. Exposure to pool chemicals dust or other irritants. Extreme concentration in a noisy environment with many distractions and activities. May be required to perform lifesaving measure.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employees responsibility. The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31 are eligible for medical dental vision long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
