Whats the role

The Assayer reports to the Chief Assayer and the role is responsible for the accurate qualitative and quantitative analyses and reporting of samples and to oversees the assay lab when working night shift.

Duties include:

  • Performs operation and maintenance of key analytical equipment such as fire assay atomic absorption spectrophotometer fusion furnaces microbalance carbon/sulphur analyser XRF related lab equipment and sample preparation equipment.
  • Train and develop Assay Technicians in all aspects of the lab duties
  • Perform daily determination reporting and distribution of the milling samples U/G rock samples water samples etc.
  • Provide technical advice and support to Mill operations.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard IDs prestart checks prestart meetings and incident reporting.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Develop a culture of high performance and behaviours that are consistent with agreed values.

What are we looking for

Required Skills & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current Drivers License.
  • Minimum of three 3 years experience in a gold mine assay lab.
  • Experienced with Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) preferred.
  • Must have sufficient education to read and write instructions perform simple mathematical calculations and keep records.
  • Knowledgeable in bullion fire assay fusion fire assay atomic absorption spectrophotometry XRF carbon/sulfur analysis sample preparation and Microsoft computer systems.
  • Competent at analytical methods used in the Assay Lab.
  • Critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
  • Organized and able to multitask with attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office (Pronto preferred)
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

The Details:

Working a 2 week on 2 week off rotating schedule of days and nights up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions dust mud varying levels of noise varying degrees of light and dark in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service games room exercise & weight room sauna and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone great WiFi & cable TV. Cell service is available through WiFi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks Delta Junction and Tok Alaska.
