Job Description
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking to hire 50100 Patient Care Technicians in the Emergency Department (ED). Under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses the ED Patient Care Technician will perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care.
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Perform EKGs throughout the Emergency Department as well as throughout the entire hospital.
- Set up rooms for patient admission.
- Clean equipment patient bedside area and nursing unit.
- Transport patients by bed cart or wheelchair.
- Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
- Perform basic CPR as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Assist patients with bedpans urinals and perineal cleansing.
- Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing toileting feeding dressing grooming and oral care for patients.
- Turn position and ambulate patients.
- Take temperature pulse and blood pressure.
- Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
- Transport equipment specimens and supplies.
Percent of Time: 50 100
Schedule: 2040 hours a week dependent on percentage of position:
- Night shifts (hours between
- Combination of 8 & 12hour shifts dependent on unit needs
- Weekend and holiday rotating assignments required
- Orientation duration may vary
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability to read write and follow instructions
Desired Qualifications:
- Direct patientcare experience
- Work experience in a health care environment
- Strong written communication skills
- Customer service experience
- Certified Nursing Assistant
- At least six months of recent Emergency Room experience and/or EMTB certification
