Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Software Development Engineer you will own adding capabilities as we unlock more features on Kindle Ereader family. Our goal is to make it fast easy and lowcost for our internal application developers to build features and release them on our Ereader stack.
You will tackle challenging novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative youll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon.
We will need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains: software hardware networks and distributed systems as well as automation.
You design and develop the critical components in Ereader that make the product a performant secure and power optimized device.
Along the way youll learn a ton have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.
You are an expert in C/C as well as comfortable working in client and service side stack.
Collaborate with experienced Amazonians to design and bring innovative components in Ereader
Architect and design a secure software that protects customer data stored on the devices.
Identify what it means to keep the software stack uptodate keeping an eye on advancements both in hardware as well as software.
A day in the life
In this role you will be actively engaged in developing our Ereader software that are based on C/C. You will be contacted by many Amazonian as they deploy their software on Ereader. You will also be the lead engineer for your team in guiding them both on design and best practices.
Ship and review C ReactNative or Java for reading features on Kindle EReader Kindle Apps on iOS/Android.
Collaborate with peers product owners UX designers and partner tech teams on architecture and design of reading features.
Adapt the customer experience for the next generation of Kindle EReader devices focusing on operational excellence monitoring the teams code deployment pipelines and dashboards
Root cause issues and propose solutions
Train new team members on how EReader and Kindle Application software is constructed how it operates how secure it is and how it fits into the bigger picture.
About the team
We own the design architecture and implementation of a surface to enable reading innovation across file formats and operating systems. Our software supports Kindle customers on all major mobile surfaces and Kindle devices. Our engineers enjoy working as a team and welcome the opportunity to lead whenever possible.
5 years of noninternship professional software development experience
5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team
5 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
