Job Description

Overview

RN Outpatient Surgery will be responsible for delegation supervision and provision of evidencebased nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age appropriate patient care. Implements evidencebased findings into practice and participates in research as appropriate.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
  • Maintain current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Maintain Provider for PEARS or PALS certification (required within 12 months of hire).

Experience:

  • Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows 12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder):
  • Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 012 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid. BSN preferred.
  • Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 1324 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred.
  • Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN required.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Attends all hospital/nurse manager specified mandatory inservices.
  • Maintains competencies as identified in unit specific requirements.
  • Completion of selfevaluation. It is the incumbents responsibility to submit to the nurse manager at annual evaluation time documentation to validate annual credentialing requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Works within the context of the surgical team to provide care to individuals before during and after a surgical procedure.
  2. Completes assessment of assigned patients condition develops individual plan of care for patient.
  3. Provide direct patient care to individuals in the presurgical operative and recovery periods.
  4. Evaluates outcomes consults with others as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  5. Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members.
  1. Promotes patient education and involves the patient and caregivers in the implementation of health goals.
  1. Participates in specific patient quality assessment activities including chart review as required.
  1. Assures that department is surveyready at all times.
  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
