Job Description

Department Overview

OHSU is Oregons only public academic health center. We are a system of hospitals and clinics across Oregon and southwest Washington. We are an institution of higher learning with schools of medicine nursing pharmacy dentistry and public health and with a network of campuses and partners throughout Oregon. As the Director Pharmacy Services you will be reporting to the Chief Pharmacy Officer this position is responsible for the leadership of Ambulatory Pharmacy services to support adult pediatric and perioperative services within the OHSU HospitalAmbulatory Infusion and Doernbecher Childrens Hospital. You will also works directly with the Chief Pharmacy Officer to prioritize work and initiatives in alignment with OHSU Health Enterprise strategy.Responsibilities include but are not limited to employee supervision; education and training of staff; programdevelopment; management of business and professional activities of the pharmacies; quality assessment andprocess improvement; and maintenance of practice standards customer service compliance with accreditationstandards and applicable laws and regulations; coordination of pharmacy services with other hospitaldepartments and teaching of pharmacy interns and residents. You will collaborate with hospital finance to identify opportunities for growth cost savings and budget formation. Additionally this position providesoversight in implementation of automation and technology and would collaborate with hospital leadership toassess prioritize and implement gene therapy at OHSU.

Function/Duties of Position

Directing Workflow:

  • Oversees the Ambulatory Pharmacy workflows in a costeffective manner directing daytoday operations delegating responsibility and authority for providing pharmacy services. Oversees integration of new pharmacy services into standard pharmacy workflows.

Program Design & Development:

  • Align Ambulatory Pharmacy strategies withhealth system goals and vision. Development of programs facilities andsystems for continuous departmental improvement. Identfy and overseeinitiatives impacting our entire department and health system partners.

Process/Service Monitoring:

  • Determines coordinates/delegates andschedules appropriate assignment of staff to meet workload demands assuringadequate resources are available. Maintains practice standards compliance and accreditation standards and applicable laws and regulations. Guides implementaiton of automation and technology throughout the ambulatory infusion setting.

Team Member Leadership:

  • Recruits hires trains develops and supervisesambulatory pharmacy leaders and assigned staff. Develops performancestandards conducts performance appraisal (PE); and recommends salaryincreases consistent with Hospital policy and procedures. Supportsambulatory pharmacy leaders in HR inquiries.

Quality and Safety:

  • Develops new and improved services within AmbulatoryPharmacy focused on adult pediatric and perioperative services throughconstant evaluation and innovation. Utlizes metrics to create strategies forrevenue generation cost savings and improved patient care. Use OPEXLean and quality improvement strategies to continuously improving servicesthat exceed customer needs.

Departmental Interdisciplinary Coordination:

  • Collaboration of pharmacyservices with interdisciplinary teams that may include but not limited tonursing areas other Ambulatory and Hospital departments and externalagencies to facilitate a smooth continuity of care.

Teaching:

  • Coordinates the recruitment education and training of pharmacystudents interns and residents during their healthsystem pharmacyadministration & leadership rotations.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Pharmacy Officer and hospital finance to managebudget and develop new financial initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • RPH PharmD
  • Licensed Pharmacist in Oregon
  • Masters or Pharmacy Residency 2 yrs work in hospital pharmacy

Additional Details

The incumbent will spend a significant amount of time at a computer terminal. The position must deal with

situations on a daily basis with a high degree of intensity. In addition within the health care setting there

can be significant lack of control over the work pace with frequent interuptions (work is often dictated by

external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress
