Description

Start and end date:Internships must take place between Monday 16 June and Friday 21 August 2025 and will last up to 10 weeks

Working hours:Fulltime 36.25 hours a week

Pay Rate:12.21 (NLW) plus holiday pay

Location:Biodiscovery InstituteUniversity of Nottingham University Park

Dress code:Smart/casual

Project title: The End of mRNAs (see attached)

The internship will comprise of a day induction a 10week lab rotation in a UoN/NTU lab a visit to Rothamsted and a celebration event to mark the end of the programme.

The duties will include:

  • Experimental work: cell culture RNA isolation PCR based poly(A) tests gel electrophoresis western blotting.
  • Computational work: Bioinformatic identification of mRNAs with poly(A) tail regulation design of oligonucleotides for validation of the findings in poly(A) tests.

Skills and experience required for the role

  • Basic knowledge of DNA and RNA biology.

What you can expect to gain from this role

Training will be provided in both experimental methods and bioinformatics. The skills learned in this project are applicable in both research into the regulation of gene expression and in the development of nucleic acid therapies.

Eligibility

Applicants must have UK fee status at the time of application and be due to enter final year of undergraduate study in September 2025. Additionally the candidates must also meet at least one of the following:

  • Identify as having Black Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) ethnicity
  • Receive full amount of student loan
  • Have a declared disability
  • Have spent more than three months in local authority care
  • Be a registered carer
  • Have refugee status from the Home Office
  • Study at or graduated from a nonRussell group university.
