Position Specific Summary
The Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) for the Pediatric Specialty Clinic is an expert clinician and nurse leader with a masters in nursing or doctorate in nursing practice degree.
The CPL leads clinical care delivery within a healthcare setting at the clinical microsystem level(i.e. small interdependent group who works together to provide care for a specific group of patients embedded in larger organization) such as an inpatientunit clinical service line or ambulatory service focuses on improving patient outcomes patient experience reducing costs and enhancing revenue through the assimilation and application of evidencebased information to design implement and evaluate patient care.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Staff Education: Leads and provides unitbased staff education and development
- Quality: Leads quality and process improvements
- Patient and familycentered care: Models and ensures Patient and FamilyCentered Care
The Clinical Practice Leader improves the quality of patient care and enhances unit effectiveness by:
- Promoting critical thinking and innovation in nursing practice and patient care
- Leading and supporting a culture of evidencebased practice and research
- Implementing effective decision making and productively managing change
- Leading interdisciplinary collaboration and team work
- Collaborating with care coordinators navigators specialty nurses and social workers to facilitate patient care and transitions across the continuum
Percent of Time: 100
Schedule: 40 hours per week MondayFriday day shift

Education orEquivalency Required: - Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing required. If Masters/Doctorate Degree is in related field Baccalaureate in Nursing required
Required Qualifications: - Current valid license to practice nursing in Iowa
- Considerable clinical experience (minimum 35 years) in pediatric specialty care
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience with:
- Staff education and development
- Evidencebased practice
- Outcomes based practice and quality improvement
- Demonstrates strong leadership including:
- Analytical thinking/problem solving
- Selfstarter and motivated; takes initiative
- Serves as change agent; leads change process including implementation of EBP
- Motivates/influences others
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and collaboration with interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates team leadership
- Demonstrates excellent verbal communication skills including ability to articulate issues professionally yet assertively and persuasively
- Demonstrates excellent written communication skills
- Role models professional practice and has reputation for clinical and service excellence
- Certification in relevant clinical specialty or role
- Proficient in computer software applications
Desired Qualifications: - 35 years of clinical experience in the ambulatory setting
- Certification: (Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) Certification by the Commission on Nurse Certification
- Experience working in a large academic medical center
- Member/active participation in professional organization(s)
- Experience with Nursing Research
- Experience creating/managing microsystems of care
