Job Description

Lowell School a progressive school of approximately 315 students in NW Washington DC seeks a Camp Support Coordinator. The Camper Support Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a safe inclusive and supportive environment for all campers. This individual is responsible for managing camper behavior facilitating conflict resolution and providing emotional and social support to ensure a positive camp experience. The ideal candidate is empathetic resourceful and skilled in working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities. This role is anticipated to be 3540 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in psychology social work education or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a camp educational or recreational setting.
  • Familiarity with behavior management and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing situations.
  • Patience empathy and a positive attitude.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Major Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for campers experiencing social emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Provide oneonone and group support to help campers navigate interpersonal conflicts and homesickness.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address challenging behaviors while fostering personal growth and accountability.
  • Collaborate with counselors to establish clear expectations and positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Respond promptly to camper incidents ensuring safety and emotional wellbeing.
  • Escalate situations as necessary to the Camp Director or appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in precamp staff training on topics such as conflict resolution behavior management and inclusion.
  • Serve as a resource for counselors to address camperrelated concerns.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents or guardians regarding camper needs and progress.
  • Document incidents and support plans accurately and confidentially.
  • Promote an environment that embraces diversity equity and inclusion for all campers including those with special needs.
  • Partner with camp leadership to adapt activities and environments to ensure accessibility.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical capacity to participate in camp activities and respond to emergencies.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours including evenings and weekends as required.

The Expected Salary Range: is $25.00 $35.00 per hour.
