Newborn Screening Laboratory. Methodologies utilized include Isoelectric focusing HPLC tandem Mass Spectrometry PCR and automated analyzers. Performs required maintenance on laboratory instrumentation both scheduled and as needed maintenance. Must be able to troubleshoot problems.
Performs quality control as required and according to protocol reviews quality control for acceptability.
Prepares various reagents needed for testing specimens. Accurately reviews and report patient test results and communicates abnormal test results according to approved laboratory procedures. Works both independently and as part of a team.
Participates in quality assurance activities within the laboratory.
State Minimum Requirements:A bachelors degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related medical scientific or technical discipline and journeylevel work experience in a related field.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Agency Additional Requirements:A bachelors degree in a chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technologyfrom an accredited institution; or anassociatedegree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Must be able to work rotating Saturdays and holidays.

A Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) degree with American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification and atleast one 1 year of clinical laboratory experience; or a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) degree with ASCPcertification and at least one 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid drivers license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10year driving record.
