Description

The Summer Art Camp Assistant will support the teacher in their assigned classroom by assisting with various tasks related to art instruction and student engagement. The assistant will help students with their projects provide guidance and offer demonstrations as needed. This role requires a passion for working with children a creative mindset and the ability to assist in a dynamic handson learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in delivering art lessons and managing classroom activities.
  • Support students individually or in groups offering guidance on projects and techniques.
  • Provide demonstrations of art techniques and assist with setup and cleanup.
  • Foster a positive encouraging environment to help students express their creativity.
  • Ensure students follow safety guidelines and classroom rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or camp coordinator.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Has completed or is working towards a bachelors degree in Art Education or in a related field.
  • Shows communication problemsolving and organizational skills.

About Extra Help Positions:

  • Extra Help job listings typically close 24 hours after the opening date unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.

  • Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30calendarday break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days you may begin another 900hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Supplemental Information

Pre Employment Screening: All external candidates who receive a job offer will be required to undergo preemployment screening for this position. The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and where applicable other background checks such as a drug screen verification of employment and education or licensure/certification reference checks and/or checks with relevant government registries. Please note that all job offers are contingent upon successful completion of the required screening process.

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F1 or J1 visas are not eligible for fulltime or parttime civil service positions with permanent status. F1 and J1 visa holders must be enrolled fulltime and can only apply for temporary parttime roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters such as student worker positions assistantships and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university and its important to highlight that benefits from statesponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
