Job Description

The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist specializes in the management of Advanced Wellness Pharmacys (AWP) pharmaceutical inventory and supplies. The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist works with the pharmacy management team and the pharmacy finance team to execute strategic purchasing and ensure inventory levels are maintained in a manner that allows AWP to provide prompt medication delivery to our patients. This position is responsible for daily submission and receipt of all pharmaceutical inventory orders inclusive of ensuring compliance with DSCSA reporting requirements. The pharmacy inventory specialist assists in the maintenance of accurate inventory records through the completion of various processes.

What Youll Do

  • Receive and unpack daily pharmaceutical inventory orders from authorized vendors.
  • Review all product for accuracy in accordance with Advanced Wellness Pharmacys receipt of pharmaceutical inventory policy and ensure all inventory on the invoice is accounted for within the order report any identified discrepancies to the vendor and if the discrepancy involves controlled substances notify pharmacy management.
  • Upload received inventory into AWPs pharmacy operating system Framework LTC to ensure balance on hand for each medication is accurately reflected.
  • Maintain active NDC library in the formulary based on products received from vendors.
  • Verify the invoice and each corresponding item received is recorded on Advanced Wellness Pharmacys DSCSA tracking portal.
  • Manage shelving and storage of AWPs daily orders ensuring inventory is added to the correct labeled shelf storage box and is maintained in a clean neat manner.
  • Review daily orders and work with the Pharmacy Finance team to ensure replenishment orders are appropriate.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy management and the Pharmacy Finance team to execute strategic purchasing initiatives monitor monthly total spend on a vendorbyvendor basis as needed.
  • Oversee inventory activities required to ensure accurate inventory records are maintained within AWPs Inventory Master System including but not limited to:
    • Oversight and daily assignment of inventory cycle counts in accordance with AWP policy.
    • Monthly review of pharmaceutical inventory expiration dates in accordance with AWP policy
    • Reconciliation of saleable and unsaleable inventory identify any discrepancy of concern to be escalated to the pharmacy management team.
    • Remove unsaleable inventory via reverse distribution process with contracted vendors.
    • Add and update inventory drug records as needed to ensure pricing is accurately reflected for all pharmaceutical inventory.
    • Work with the Pharmacist Manager of Record and Pharmacy Management team to ensure accountability the inventory of controlled substances including participation in the Drug Diversion Committee
    • Review daily inventory variance reports provided by the Finance Department update inventory drug record and/or drug pricing to accurately reflect invoice pricing.
    • Educates the entire pharmacy team via written communication on drug shortages and outages and works with the Manager of Pharmacy Operations Director of Clinical Operations and others to provide suggested mitigations to these outages.
    • Review medication that has not been dispensed in a period of time and initiate a return to the wholesaler via best process including amnesty returns as allowed by our current wholesaler contract.
    • Ensure that an active pharmaceutical inventory is not expired and is otherwise suitable for dispensing.
    • Check on hand inventory for recalled products and sequester them for return or destruction.
  • Perform other technicianbased workflow tasks as needed.


What Youll Need to Succeed

  • Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration (RPhT) active and in good Standing required.
  • National Pharmacy Certification (CPhT or ExCPT) active and in good standing.
  • 2 years Pharmacy experience required; pharmacy inventory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including standing or sitting for up to 8 hours per day and lifting/moving moderately heavy deliveries.
