The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Electrician II for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS). Governor Morehead School is a residential school responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K12 from across North Carolina.
Summary or Brief Description of Work:
This position is to perform scheduled tests inspections and repairs on life safety equipment and systems such as egress and exit lights; perform tests inspections and repairs to campus electrical systems lighting systems and appliances; participate in force account renovation projects regarding electrical systems and equipment; assist in testing inspecting and maintaining the emergency generator units; work from elevated work platforms such as ladders scaffolds and aerial lifts. Perform preventive maintenance actions to meet accreditation and certification standards. This position is expected to fulfill OnCall and emergency callback assignments and is considered a mandatory position that must report to work during periods of adverse weather. Normal working hours are Monday Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applicant must have a valid North Carolina Drivers License.

Knowledge of utility piping systems; knowledge of practices and principles of the NC Building Code for plumbing systems; ability to work from construction drawings; skilled in the use of related trade tools and equipment; physically able to work in confined spaces.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Based on the nature of work performed may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission
Management Preferences:
Three 3 years of progressive experience in the installation maintenance or repair of electrical systems equipment and components within a commercial or industrial setting. NC Limited Electrical License.
Physical Requirements:
HEAVY WORK Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Work may be performed in extreme environmental conditions including adverse weather conditions. Position must be capable of working from elevated work platforms up to 60 feet in height. Able to work in small and confined spaces; ability to work on ladders for extended periods of time.
