The Opportunity:
The Construction Accountant will oversee the financial health of a prominent commercial general contractor by managing project accounting financial reporting and compliance. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of construction accounting principles. The Construction Accountant will work closely with senior management and project teams to ensure accurate financial oversight and informed decisionmaking.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process payroll for office and field staff including tracking certified payroll for prevailing wage projects.
- Review and record accounts payable and receivable transactions ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Manage fullcycle accounting for construction projects including job costing revenue recognition and workinprogress (WIP) reporting.
- Prepare monthly quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Analyze project budgets forecasts and variances providing insights to project managers and leadership.
- Review and approve pay applications after project managers signoff ensuring compliance with contract terms and client requirements.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow projections for ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations including sales tax use tax and multistate tax filings.
- Coordinate with external accountants and auditors during annual audits and tax preparation.
- Comply with internal controls to safeguard company assets and improve financial processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting finance or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
- 4 years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in construction accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g. Sage 300 Procore or Viewpoint) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of construction financial practices including percentageofcompletion accounting and AIA billing.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements union reporting and multistate taxation is preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present financial information to nonfinancial stakeholders.
Work Environment & Requirements:
- This position is onsite in an office environment
- This position is primarily a sedentary office role requiring the ability to sit for extended periods use a computer and communicate effectively.
- The ability to walk lift up to 20 lbs and stand for long periods of time is occasionally required.
