POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides regular reflective and relationshipbased coaching and professional development to teachers and instructional leaders working in early childhood programs including those participating in Multnomah Countys publicly funded Preschool for All program. Partners with teachers and administrators to meet classroom and program goals bestpractice standards and increase the level of jobembedded professional development and establish a mindset of continuous quality improvement.

NATURE & SCOPE:

This position is subject to board policies administrative rules and procedures department regulations and applicable state and federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with districts Child Care Resource & Referral ESD staff and community partners in the service of preschool and early learning.
  • Assist the Department of Instruction/School Improvement and Preschool & Early Learning Division staff at Multnomah County with an assessment of the needs of local districts and development of the local implementation of longrange goals of Preschool for All implementation.
  • Support individual districts to prepare for new or expanded preschool offerings and assist with the facilitation and implementation of specified projects in curriculum instruction coordination inclusion and culturally responsive practices.
  • Maintain alignment with the goals of the Preschool for All (PFA) initiative and the PFA coaching team at Mt. Hood Community College Child Care Resource & Referral.
  • Facilitate regional coordination and implementation of best practices in early learning early literacy and culturally affirming/responsive practices in school district preschools in partnership with Preschool & Early Learning Division staff at Multnomah County.
  • Support culturally responsive and inclusive teaching curriculum development and family engagement for diverse populations.
  • Develop and facilitate training professional learning and technical assistance opportunities for district staff in early learning inclusive practices culturally relevant teaching family engagement strategies for educators and early literacy development in preschool.
  • Conduct research locate resources and provide written information relating to preschool implementation as needed or requested.
  • Organize plan for and meet deadlines and coordinate multiple projects as assigned.
  • Assist with locating writing facilitating and implementing grants or grant opportunities for MESD or local districts.
  • Center equity by addressing barriers promoting inclusive practices and engaging historically underserved communities to ensure fair access and outcomes in early learning.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Attends MESD advisory meetings department meetings and other meetings as requested.
  • Consults with principals and curriculum directors to assess the needs of individual districts and assist them with the design of professional development.
  • Contributes to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Attendance:Daily and consistent attendance and punctuality are paramount as this provides consistency and alignment with students peers and programming outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and experience in the Oregon Early Learning Standards Common Core State Standards Social Emotional Learning TraumaInformed Practices Inclusive Practices Multilingual Learners Culturally Affirming/Culturally Relevant curriculum instruction and assessment.
  • Have a deep knowledge of schools and confidence in navigating districts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting collaborative relationships across diverse backgrounds centering equity cultural responsiveness and mutual respect in all interactions.
  • Strong commitment to racial equity and experience utilizing a racial equity lens in decisionmaking.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to be fluid flexible and comfortable with committee work and special projects and work with a rapidly changing set of responsibilities.
  • Experience facilitating staff development.
  • Experience supporting multilingual learners through culturally and linguistically responsive practices
  • Experience in early childhood education is required including building partnerships with families.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES:

  • Experience providing instructional coaching and/or staff development for early learning.
  • Experience facilitating professional learning or coaching focused on equity inclusion and culturally affirming strategies in early childhood settings.
  • Multilingual abilities or experience supporting dual language learners is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with inclusive practices and/or supporting multilingual learners.
  • Candidates who have experience working in Special Education services with our youngest learners are highly encouraged to apply.
  • A valid Oregon teaching license is preferred but not required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education Educational Leadership Curriculum and Instruction or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in a preschool setting with a demonstrated focus on inclusive and culturally affirming practices. Alternatively five years of experience working in a public school setting with a proven ability to engage diverse populations and support multilingual learners.o
  • Knowledge of Oregon Early Learning Standards Common Core State Standards Social Emotional Learning TraumaInformed Practices Inclusive Practices and Multilingual Learners as well as experience in applying them within diverse educational settings.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills knowledge and ability required to perform the job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a wide variety of locations including office and school environments. Work typically involves sitting walking and attending evening and weekend meetings. This position requires the use of computers office equipment and frequent local/regional travel. The ability to work remotely on a computer for a long period is required. Occasional outofstate travel may be required.
