Summary & Objective
The Director of Nursing Services assumes authority and responsibility for planning organizing implementing directing evaluating and controlling the overall operation of the Nursing Department. The Director of Nursing has 24/7 responsibility of the Nursing Department.
Essential Functions
- Plans organizes implements directs evaluates and controls the overall operation of the Nursing Department.
- Assures the Nursing goals and objectives which are reflective of the facilitys management philosophy.
- Directs monitors and evaluates all Nursing Department Committees councils and team functions.
- Implements monitors and controls the approved department budget.
- Serves as the facility Stroke Program Director/Coordinator.
- Assures Nursing Management team develops and implements patient and/or resident care plans that reflect compliance with licensure and accrediting agencies.
- Assigns responsibility within the scope of the individuals abilities job description and licensures.
- Meets with Director Executive/Administrator to discuss escalated matters obtain direction and set time frames for planned activities.
- Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitors staff practices and
implementation.
- Ensures the needs of all patients and/or resident needs can be met.
- Participates in daily or weekly management team meetings to discuss patient and/or residents status census changes personnel or patient and/or residents complaints or concerns to ensure an effective QAPI program.

Other Duties
- Collaborates with other departments medical professionals consultants and organizations including government agencies and advocacy groups to develop support and coordinate patient and/or residents care related administrative functions and to represent the interests of the facility.
- Coordinates nursing services with all departments as needed.
- Oversees nursing schedules to assure they meet patient and/or resident needs and regulatory and budgetary standards.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assures sufficient staff is hired.
- Establishes implements and monitors the infection control program designed to provide a safe sanitary
and comfortable environment designed to prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection.
- Ensure Nursing Department is prepared for inspections/surveys from but not limited to AHCA TJC DOH or any other regulatory agencies.
- Participates in the preparation of the Plan of Correction response to an inspection survey and implements
any followup requirement for any nursing citations.
- Promotes customer service and hospitality and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns
from patient and/or resident or families about nursing services.
- Promotes positive employee engagement teamwork mutual respect and safety work practices.
- Maintain your required certifications and mandatory skill updates.
- Comply with all policies local state and federal laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Answers call lights within appropriate established timeframe.
Supervisory Responsibility
- May serve as an interim department leader depending on need
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250 pounds walk climb stair or ladders stand on feet for extended periods of time etc.
