Job Summary:
The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 2 (Nights). The successful candidate will:
- Provide respiratory care for Adult Pediatric & Neonatal patients under the direction of a physician; (Neonatal and Pediatric Primary.
- Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care.
- Conduct ventilator management.
- Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases.
- Record respiratory progress of patients who are being ventilated mechanically.
- Record the respiratory status of all patients.
- Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardiorespiratory arrests.
- Provide sputum induction.
- Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy.
- Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof.
- Make entries in patients progress record and hospital computer systems.
- Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and housestaff.
- Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use.
- Provide chest physiotherapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning.
- Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications).
Required Qualifications:
- New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
- Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- BLS (to be obtained within 1year of employment).
- NRP required to work in NICU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with NPS NRP PALS and ACLS preferred.
Work Schedule:
Variable Days; 7:30pm to 8:30am (FullTime Nights)
