HIGH SCHOOL HALL MONITOR


Location:Middletown High School


Reports to:Building Principal

Broad Function:


The High School Hall Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe clean and respectful environment in school restrooms. This position plays a critical role in ensuring students follow school policies while in the restroom areas and that facilities are properly used.


Essential Functions:


  • Monitors student activity in and around restrooms to ensure proper behavior and prevent vandalism inappropriate gatherings or other misconduct.
  • Conducts regular walkthroughs of assigned restrooms ensuring cleanliness safety and adherence to school rules.
  • Ensures students are not lingering in the bathrooms and return to class promptly after use.
  • Reports any maintenance or cleanliness issues to custodial staff.
  • Addresses and deescalate any student conflicts or behavioral issues that arise in the restroom area.
  • Assists in enforcing school policies including the appropriate use of restrooms during class time and ensures students have proper hall passes.
  • Provides a visible approachable presence to promote student safety and accountability.
  • Communicates any concerns regarding student behavior or safety to school administration or security staff.
  • Responds quickly to emergencies or health and safety incidents in restroom areas.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications Experience and Job Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with students and staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to address minor disciplinary issues or refer them to the appropriate school authority.
  • Previous experience working with adolescents is preferred but not required.
  • Must pass a background check and be eligible for employment in a school environment.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of students employees and members of the public required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to quickly respond to situations as they arise.

Salary & Compensation:

  • Nonbargaining $16.00 per hour $16.35 per hour Effective 1/1/2025
  • 35Hours per week
  • No Benefits
  • 7:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m.

  • Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing and typing required.
  • Ability to see and read objects closely such as wiring labels on equipment reading/proofreading a report using a computer monitor filing and/or retrieving information from a filing system and verifying the accuracy of financial information required.
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise as in using a telephone or radio distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech including using a radio required.
  • Memory adequate to perform tasks/assignments given over long periods of time required.
  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals required.
