Are you a healthcare professional that is looking for an opportunity to step into a management position Do you have experience overseeing clinical operations and staff This may be the perfect opportunity for you! The Oregon Department of Corrections is looking to fill new positions in our Health Care Unit Assistant Medical Services Administrator. This position will be based out of Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville Oregon and have administrative oversight of Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland along with South Fork Forest Camp in Tillamook.

About the Job Your Role

The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the comprehensive health care delivery programs of Oregon Department of Corrections institutions located throughout the state. This position directly supervises the Medical Services Managers by developing program standards and best practices to ensure health care is being delivered in accordance with Administrative Rules ODOC Policies Health Service Policies and standards set forth by the national Commission on Correctional health Care in such a manner that the care delivered is timely efficient clinically appropriate and meets community standards.

Persons in this position are responsible for the orderly operation of all health care programs in each of the Departments correctional facilities on a daily basis and must be capable of taking direct command of any health care program on an emergency basis or in a disaster. Employee in this position must be able to travel from one geographic location to another in order to direct and supervise the health care program and must be capable of performing patient care at any time. Persons in this position are oncall every day at all hours and carry a state cell phone at all times. Persons in this position are responsible for the custody and supervision of AICs receiving health care services.

This position is management services and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of management experience; OR two years of management experience and a bachelors degree in a related field.

Working Conditions

Working conditions may include overnight and weekend travel contact with adults in custody (AICs) in the institutional setting making presentations to staff and outside groups. Position requires some travel to all Oregon Department of Corrections facilities and conferences/meetings as required. Regular attendance is an essential function required to meet the demands of this job and to provide necessary services.

This position requires walking or standing for long periods requires climbing and descending stairs. This position may be required to perform nursing duties at an institution due to emergency situations which would require interactions with AICs and possible encounters with abusive and/or hostile AICs who pose the risk of physical injury. This position requires frequent long hours and may necessitate the need to work weekends. This person must be able to travel to institutions so must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record or be able to provide an acceptable alternate method of transportation.

Will be expected to share the mission vision and core values of the department; requires being a role model of prosocial behavior and having an attitude that conveys dignity and respect in the treatment of others; must be able to acknowledge that everyone is capable of positive change; requires walking or standing for long periods requires climbing and descending stairs; potential exposure to chemicals radiation communicable diseases or other hazards inherent in a health care and correctional setting. Supervision and control of adults in custody (AICs) is an inherent responsibility.

The AICs have the potential for becoming angry hostile abusive and aggressive increasing the risk to employees for physical injury death and/or being taken hostage. You will work as a member of an office team where conversations and paperwork of a sensitive nature are generated and will be required to keep this information confidential.

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprintbased background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
