Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Director Life Design Educator for Advanced Academic Programs. The Assistant Director of Life Design Educator (LDE) will report to Director of the Life Design for Graduate Programming. They will execute the Life Design Labs vision with a focus on multicultural collaboration (the LDE would be working with students of diverse backgrounds and the LDE would collaborate with other LDEs professionals of different backgrounds) and the creation of scalable content delivery for graduate students in Johns Hopkins Advanced Academic Programs. Under the leadership of the vice provost for integrative learning and life design Johns Hopkins University has developed an ambitious vision to continue to integrate life design experiential learning and mentoring in the academic and cocurricular learning experience for all students and postdoctoral fellows.
As an equitybased office that believes all students have the same opportunity to pursue their life purpose regardless of background field of study or social capital each Life Design Educator is expected to support all of our students by actively participating throughout the year in the cocreation and of programs that impact our entire student population. However this position has a focus on graduate students in Advanced Academic Programs which includes our residential and virtual masters students pursuing Masters Degrees and graduatelevel certificates. This role will be based in the DC Campus and occasionally will work from Homewood campus under the multiple social media channels.
The Assistant Director implements programs and creates content that connects graduate/professional students to critical mindsets frameworks and approaches using the novel approach to career readiness and life design that has been established at Johns Hopkins University. Alongside colleagues within the Graduate Programming team the Assistant Director will help maintain critical and established relationships with departmental leadership faculty campus partners community partners alumni and local employers. To that end this position is specifically responsible for branding the Life Design Lab through social media and other digital formats.
Over the course of the year the Life Design Lab offers both creditbearing and noncredit bearing coursework that is driven by our unique life design curriculum. The Assistant Director will spend time serving as a teaching assistant and eventually a cofacilitator for the formalized curriculum for our student population. The Life Design Labs efforts are also driven by initiativebased programs that span the academic calendar. These offerings will meet the unique needs of students and alumni concerning their identity values academic pursuits and professional interests.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessment and utilize data to create and execute scalable sustainable and impactful student programming.
- Collaborate with the Advanced Academic Programs Student Affairs team an AAP Life Design team member and student organizations (AAP Student Government GRO ISAH etc. to design promote and execute scalable and impactful programming to engage with 100 of students.
- Ensure the delivery of the Life Design curriculum to students via official channels including the Life Design Course (International Student Curriculum and Graduate Students Curriculum) intersession or departmentsponsored courses.
- Develop and maintain existing CANVAS courses and resources to ensure pages remain uptodate with trending data and information.
- Partner with faculty alumni and employers to increase mentoring experiential learning and career opportunities for students and alumni.
- Develop close partnerships with the LDL Employer Engagement team.
- Plan and host employer sessions (info sessions coffee chats networking and recruitment events) and alumni panels (in collaboration with the Development and Alumni Office faculty etc. across various AAP programs.
- Create and publish digital content and other marketing materials that tell the story of the Life Design Lab the Graduate Programming team and our students in a way that helps establish our brand with academic professional and community audiences.
- Produce thought leadership pieces for the Life Design Lab blog/webpage including reflection pieces video content short articles and opinion pieces.
- Support the planning and of signature annual offerings (Future Fest Industry Weeks etc..
- Serve as a thought leader at Johns Hopkins and as an external point of contact for industry employers by identifying promoting and supporting established recruitment opportunities on campus.
- Collaborate with Life Design Lab staff to build and maintain a network of employers and mentors across varied careers who can attend courses programs and networking events.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Experience with technology and able to quickly learn and use a wide range of systems (Handshake VMock) collaboration tools (Zoom Teams Outlook Canva).
- Strong multicultural competency and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to achieve equitable and inclusive results.
- By way of experience evidence of ability to develop and execute programs courses events and content to scale impact across various constituent groups.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in person and virtually to achieve individual and shared goals within a complex and decentralized institution.
- Listen and communicate convincingly in written and verbal formats.
- Ability to translate student experiences to employment as evidenced by prior experience in either a government nonprofit higher education or private sector setting.
- Experience in designing and executing largescale events particularly those involving alumni and employers such as panels summits and recruitment events.
- Knowledge of the needs of international students and an understanding of this populations unique life design and career planning needs and expectations.
- Experience work with career transitioners and advancers in online student programs/distance learners and had a vision to build a community for this group.
- Experience creating content (video digital written) and utilizing social media for the purposes of engaging and educating diverse audiences and influencing public opinion.

- The ideal candidate is comfortable with coworking flexible work arrangements and multiple forms of technology communication and content delivery. Our educators work within multiple offices and spaces on campus. Rather than assigning office or desk spaces to our teams we have modernized our approach and assigned laptops and cell phones and expect that our teams can work from anywhere for the purpose of scaling our impact across the institution. For this model to work the ideal candidate must present excellent skills in relationship development and engaging audiences in groups and via social media and digital outlets.
- Our educators work within multiple offices and spaces on campus. The ideal candidate can work from the D.C. Campuses 34 days per week under the multiple social media channels.
- The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial data and outcomesdriven strong in planning and comfortable leading programs and interventions with groups and enjoys developing relationships and connections with multiple stakeholders at once. Our new vision is focused on the scalability of resources and services. For this transformation to work traditional oneonone counseling and coaching services are taking a backseat to a culture of group coaching and workshops as well as scalable programs and events to reach the broader audience.

Minimum Qualifications
- Masters Degree is required.
- Three 3 years of experience within a higher education government nonprofit or corporate setting.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
