Job Description

Seeking applicants for a Director of Major Gifts to develop longterm philanthropic relationships with alumni parents and community members. Candidates should exhibit a high level of integrity be resultsdriven and selfmotivated.

Major gift officers meet with current and prospective donors to share the vision and mission of Carthage College for the purpose of soliciting financial support. Successful work in this role will include ten to twelve donor visits per month to meet fundraising goals. Candidates should be familiar with the donor cycle of qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship. Additionally this role works closely with colleagues across the College to develop and implement key fundraising strategies. As Carthage concludes the $100 million Light that Travels comprehensive campaign key funding priorities include student scholarships program innovation funds and several capital projects

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategically manage a portfolio of approximately 100125 assigned donors and prospects capable of making gifts and financial commitments of greater than $25000.
  • Create and manage opportunities for each person in the assigned portfolio.
  • Create and execute a moves management plan (identification cultivation solicitation and stewardship) for each person in the portfolio.
  • Meet key performance metrics set during the annual goal setting process including visits asks qualifications and dollars raised.
  • Secure support for a wide range of needs including unrestricted support endowed scholarships and capital projects.
  • Utilize campus events (including reunions Homecoming Presidents Leadership Dinner and others) to engage constituents as appropriate.
  • Actively participate with colleagues in the Advancement Office and across campus to foster a culture of generosity.
  • Other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelors degree required
  • Experience: Five years of related professional experience in external relationship management such as sales fundraising recruitment or account management.
  • Established track record of soliciting and closing five and six figure gifts preferred.
  • Understanding of higher education and familiarity with Carthage College preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills. Trustworthy with sensitive information. Ability to identify and articulate insights regarding prospect motivations and concerns. Proven project management and analytical skills particularly planning managing deadlines and evaluating progress. Able to identify and rally needed resources to execute responsibilities. Establish collaborative relationships with campus colleagues. Knowledge of constituent databases Microsoft Office and other computer software.
  • Travel: The position requires travel to meet with donors. Must be able to plan and execute travel plans and spend 35 nights away from home per month.
  • The scope of the job requires occasional attendance at evening and/or weekend activities meetings events seminars and workshops etc.
