George Fox Universitys

Program for Leadership & Formation (PLF) is seeking a motivated creative collaborative and organized individual to oversee a mixture of qualitative and quantitative assessments of a range of programs and initiatives at George Fox University aimed at wholeperson formation and character virtue development.

The Program for Leadership & Formation (PLF) seeks to unite the fragmenting purposes of higher education (worldview formation and vocation) by building organizational coherence around a Christcentered framework of wholeperson formation (Head Heart and Hands) and the character virtues of wisdom moral courage and neighbor love. The PLF provides leadership for Christcentered student formation across curricular and cocurricular spheres at George Fox University including developing a formative firstyear experience developing characterfocused curricula for faculty staff and student programs and providing microgrants for cohortbased formation initiatives across campus. The PLF is supported by the Educating Character Initiative (ECI) and Lilly Endowment Inc.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying existing measures and/or create new measures related to core character traits and virtues (wisdom moral courage and neighborlove)
  • Assisting in developing rigorous research design for empirical (quantitative and qualitative) assessments
  • Working toward the publication of research related to these assessments
  • Playing a significant role in the development of a new universitywide FirstYear Experience that integrates best practices in character education spiritual formation and student success
  • Helping lead occasional workshops for faculty who are committed to cultivating virtues through their courses and activities
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others including employees students and the public in a spirit of teamwork respect and customer service.
  • By actions words and lifestyle be a Christian role model to students whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Were looking for candidates who have:


Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes:

  • Preferred expertise/experience could include psychology of character (developmental personality social or positive psychology) virtue ethics higher education pedagogy.
  • We are especially interested in candidates whose research focuses on wisdom moral courage or neighborlove (or related topics).

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: FullTime 11 Months 0.92 FTE)
  • Duration: This is a limitedterm position expected to conclude within two or twoandahalf years depending on start date.
  • Work Location: Newberg Campus
    • This position has the potential to begin remotely for the remainder of the 2024/25 academic year depending on work location and departmental requirements.
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are those of a normal office environment.
