Brief Description of Duties

The Director of Career Services will develop implement assess and evaluate the Career Development and Student Success Model. The incumbent will receive general guidance from theAssociate Vice President of Student Successto manage the career service centers at both the Van Ness and Lamont Riggs campuses coordinate activities and supervise career counselors employment outreach coordinator and an office manager.. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a proven record in leading and developing cohesive teams managing performance and productivity strategic planning and contributing to organizational leadership; he or she should display an entrepreneurial creative and innovative spirit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate and oversee the goals objectives activities assessments evaluations and budget for the career center.
  • Manage the operations of the career center
  • Lead the career counseling activities as well as provide career counseling at an advanced level to students/graduates in a variety of areas including career exploration assessments resumes cover letters thank you letters portfolios career event opportunities graduate/professional school applications and searches job/internship applications and searches job/internship employment opportunities etc.
  • Lead the employment outreach activities and provide employment outreach at an advanced level for students/graduates and employers/recruiters to develop partnerships for career opportunities including jobs internships other positions career programs MOUs etc.
  • Lead the curriculum development and instruction and instruct career workshops and creditbearing career courses at an advanced level on various topics including career exploration resumes cover letters thank you letters interviewing networking job/internship searches etc.
  • Oversee the coordination of the chairing of the Career Advisory Committee for the respective college/school to support partnerships among faculty/staff and employers for curricula alignment career programs jobs/internships MOUs etc.
  • Explore commission and integrate software and technologies including the career services management system career assessments employment outcomes survey continuing education survey computer labs etc.
  • Administer as well as serve as the lead administrator for the career services management system (job database) for multiple users including students alums employers recruiters faculty staff etc. with various functions including job/internship/other position announcements board career events career resources career counseling appointments employer directories hire and employment surveys continuing education surveys outcome reports etc.
  • Prepare and submit reports for strategic recommendations and outcomes emphasizing the employment of students/graduates and partnerships with employers/recruiters based on documented activities and services in the career services management system.
  • Strong knowledge of trends in internships employment the economy effective interventions technology and industry networks.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Student Success or Chief Student Development and Success Officer
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Completed a bachelors degree in behavioral health counseling social work psychology or a related field.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • At least five years of work experience as a director coordinator or manager in Career Services at a college/university.
  • Experience with career data management systems such as Handshake FOCUS2 CSO Simplicity Bamboo etc.
  • Experience in student information systems such as Banner and PeopleSoft
  • Experience in computer software including Windows and Microsoft Office Suite Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint and Publisher.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference:A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position may be awarded a 10point residency preference over nonDistrict applicants unless the person declines the preference points. If selected the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

DrugFree Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the DrugFree Workplace Act of 1988 the individual selected to fill this position will as a condition of employment be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor in writing not later than five 5 days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a satisfactory backgroundinvestigation is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
