Join our team on the Acute Care for Elders (ACE) unit as our Staff Development Nursea 32bed unit dedicated to providing agefriendly specialized care to patients 65 and older. Our focus is on delivering compassionate evidencebased care that supports the unique needs of older adults.

Were looking for a passionate and organized Staff Development Nurse to support this mission. In this MondayFriday position youll enjoy a flexible schedule and receive excellent onboarding and mentorship from the current Staff Development Nurse to set you up for success.

In this role youll be responsible for developing coordinating and delivering new employee orientation and onboarding as well as providing ongoing unitspecific education to ensure staff maintain required competencies and stay current with best practices. Your work will directly impact the quality of care provided to our older adult patients.

If youre interested working on the floor in addition to your staff development duties is an option open for discussion. Geriatric experience is preferred and were looking for someone with a passion for helping others grow and succeed.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

1. Develop and lead the clinical orientation and progression of new hires to the unit.

  • Coordinate clinical practice based learning with preceptor.

  • Facilitate General Hospital Orientation.

    • Not applicable to MFH Medical Surgical

  • Facilitate evaluate and validate new hire clinical progression and competency.

  • Develop action plans for success when needs are identified during orientation.

  • Perform documentation audit for 6 month probationary and annual evaluation of employees.

2. Identify plan and implement staff development initiatives to enhance knowledge validate competency and encourage personal and professional growth.

  • Perform and participate in ongoing educational and competency needs assessments.

  • Participate in developing and disseminating action plans/change initiatives that address individual unit and organizational learning and competency needs to improve the quality of care.

  • Collaborate with unit leadership to monitor completion of learning/competency requirements.

  • Support and mentor unit staff in personal and professional development opportunities utilizing Benners Novice to Expert model.

  • MFH Medical Surgical: Serve as a resource for unit staff to obtain specialty certification

3. Participate in ongoing initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical orientation and ongoing competency.

  • Facilitate use of evidence based practice and adult learning principles when developing educational initiatives.

  • Collaborate with unit leadership to develop and implement unit based skills and competencies.

  • Engage in and evaluate trials of educational and competency initiatives.

  • Develop and update online learning modules.

  • Develop and update clinical skill critical elements.

    • Not applicable to MFH Medical Surgical

  • MFH Medical Surgical: Develop and coordinate learning through use of simulation lab

4. Serve as clinical role model for staff through expert knowledge and application of the nursing process and critical thinking skills.

  • Assist support and mentor staff in individualizing the nursing plan of care based on assessment findings and evidence based practice standards.

  • Review modify and disseminate changes related to documentation and care planning within the Electronic Health Record.

5. Accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families according to the individualized needs of the patient.

  • Maintain skills and competencies in the delivery of direct patient care.

  • Support clinical development of direct care staff by working a minimum of two shifts per month with a patient care load on the unit.

6. MFH Medical Surgical: Facilitate unit specific opportunities for student nurse clinicals and preceptorships.

7. MFH Medical Surgical: Participate in hospital and system committees as directed by leadership

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.

  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred.

  • Ortho Neuro National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification training required by the completion of orientation.


Experience

  • Minimum 3 years clinical nursing experience required.


License/Certifications

  • Current valid Nebraska RN License valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.

  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire required within 3 months of hire.

  • Specialty certification required within 2 years of hire into position.

  • Specialty certification required within 1 year of hire into position for MFH Medical Surgical.

  • Certification(s) in areas of specialty preferred.

    • From National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.

  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course preferred for Medical Surgical.

  • Oncology Certified Nurse Certification (OCN) preferred for Medical Surgical


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge of databases preferred.

  • Computer knowledge with abilities in word processing required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients family members hospital personnel and coworkers.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments.

  • Ability to learn retain and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital or clinic information system.
