Job Description

School Based Health Center Mental Health Professional Part time

Position Description:

Reporting to the Coordinator of School Based Health Centers (SBHC) in the Student Support Services Unit the SBHC Mental Health Professional is responsible for providing assessment and direct treatment of students as outlined by Jefferson Parish Schools and the Office of Public Health.

Coordinator of School Based Health Centers

Scope of Responsibility:

Provide psychosocial evaluations and risk assessments for students enrolled in the School Based Health Center.

Develop implement and coordinate treatment plans for students seen on a regular basis. Provide individual group and/or family counseling/therapy sessions for enrolled students utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques.

Maintain a working knowledge of community social service resources to refer students and families.

Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive behavioral health records by using electronic medical records on SBHC enrolled students.

Consult with teachers and administrators regarding appropriate prevention and intervention techniques effective with students.

Set up sessions with family members when appropriate and in the best interest of the child.

Attend professional workshops inservices and peer consultation to encourage continued professional growth to maintain license as mandated by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners or the Louisiana State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.

Maintains security of electronic and print records with regards to confidentiality of student information.

Follows SBHC confidentiality policy and the mandated HIPPA and FERPA federal guidelines. Coordinate psychiatry appointments for students enrolled in the health center. Provide crisis intervention services to students and follow through with a clearly defined action plan. Accurately documents crisis incidents using SBHC and JPS forms.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of School Based Health Centers. Skills and Qualifications: We seek detailoriented independent selfstarters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations.

Successful candidates will also demonstrate:

Masters degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling from an accredited university/college required.

Licensed by the Louisiana Board of Social Work Examiners as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certification as a Qualified Social Worker as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education or:

Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and certification as a Qualified Mental Health Counselor as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education

3 years of progressively increasing experience in a clinical social work or counseling setting.

Explicit knowledge of evidenced based therapeutic practices.

Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culturecreator that can inspire and motivate.

Exceptional analytical and problemsolving skills with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.

Collaborative management style with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decisionmaking and results.

High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.

Desirable Qualifications:

Bilingual

Experience working in a school setting

Physical Involvement:

Sitting is a required part of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing walking reaching bending lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
