Job Description

The Junior Accountant supports the daytoday financial operations of the Education Service Center by performing essential accounting functions under the guidance of senior staff. This role includes assistance with reconciliations data entry compliance tracking and preparation of financial documents. The Junior Accountant contributes to accurate financial reporting and helps ensure adherence to policies procedures and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years accounting experience (governmental experience preferred)
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general ledger/accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Knowledge/Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will have/be:

    • Demonstrate familiarity with GAAP and fund accounting basics
    • Show a willingness to learn school finance standards (TEA GASB)
    • Be detailoriented and accurate in data entry and reconciliation tasks
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues and external clients
    • Manage time well and meet routine deadlines
    • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling financial records
    • Be open to mentoring and feedback for continuous development
    • Display initiative in supporting teambased tasks and learning new skills

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with general ledger entries and account reconciliations
  • Support monthend and yearend closing procedures
  • Prepare routine financial reports or summaries for review by senior staff
  • Help organize and maintain accurate financial documentation and records
  • Monitor compliance of assigned transactions with internal procedures and external regulations
  • Assist with fixed asset tracking and grantrelated documentation
  • Provide entrylevel support to internal departments and client districts
  • Participate in audit preparation and respond to auditor requests as assigned
  • Collaborate with the Operational Support Services team to resolve discrepancies and improve processes
  • Cross train to develop capacity in the payroll accounts payable accounts receivable and purchasing roles of the Center
  • Stay informed of relevant financial and regulatory updates
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and standards in all aspects of ESC duties
  • Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education Rules and ESC board policy and procedures
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible
  • Articulate and support the Center mission and instructional philosophy
