JOB DESCRIPTION

The Massillon City School District is currently seeking an experienced dynamic teacher to join their team of dedicated professionals. We are looking for individuals who:

  • Complete and maintain compliance with special education paperwork as well as support access for students with disabilities in school programming.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible intelligent human beings.
  • Has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Assist in coordinating the special education program for all students with disabilities in the school district
  • Assist in implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating handicapped pupil
  • Develop IEPs for children; assist in scheduling IEP conferences
  • Provide classroom teachers with resource information
  • Assist coordination of activities between the school district and outside agencies
  • Work with regular classroom teachers in supporting access to curriculum and extracurricular activities
  • Prepare local state and federal reports relative to areas of special education and pupil personnel services
  • Serve as a member of IAT and IEP teams as required
  • Attend IEP and facilitate IEP meetings
  • Consult with regular education teacher concerning modifications adaptations or alternate assignments in regular education classroom for special education students
  • Assist with record keeping tasks and individual records of all children recommended to receive special education services or those enrolled in special education
  • Adhere to rules and regulations regarding programs that relate to special education
  • Assist in conducting programs for the identification of exceptional children
  • Compile and maintain an accurate inventory of special education materials
  • Represent the district at local state and regional activities/committees as agreed to
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information e.g. student IEPs testing information student and staff information
  • Create IEP goals/objectives for students that aligned with ETR needs
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear complete and accurate explanations as the facilitator of special education meetings
  • Support strategies to accomplish individualized program goals
  • Consult with regular classroom teacher concerning placement of potential students
  • Support staff in creating curriculum as well as alternative teaching techniques/interventions and assessments to best enhance student learning
  • Ensure compliance related to special education timelines
  • Plan and schedule activities to meet individual student needs and activities to support the grade level curriculum
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff students and parents
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by Student Services Director/Building Principal/Designee

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff students and parents
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance attitude and conversation
  • Attend meetings and inservices as required
  • Act as a mentor for first year teachers as agreed upon
  • Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices
  • Serve as role model for students
  • Assist in selection of textbooks equipment and other instructional materials
  • Assist with the creation of supportive programming for student with behavioral needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Services Director/Building Principal/Designee

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in education from an accredited college or university
  • Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/license/ Intervention Specialist
  • At least 2 years minimum successful teaching experience in special education setting including but not limited to: the development of writing of and implementation students IEPs.
  • Provide evidence of active participation in Teacher Based Team meetings
  • Be able to demonstrate how you have applied knowledge and skills acquired from professional development in the development of writing of and implementation of students IEPs.
  • Provide documentation of student achievement and progress as it pertains to this job vacancy

  • Knowledge of special education state and federal guidelines

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue
  • Occasional interaction with unruly students
  • Frequent requirement to sit stand walk talk hear see read speak reach stretch with hands and arms crouch kneel climb and stoop
  • Occasionally lift carry push and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions i.e. being prepared to work on all scheduled school days except calamity days
  • Frequent repetitive hand motion e.g. computer keyboard calculator writing
  • Occasional travel
  • Occasional evening/weekend work
